December 2016 Dear Parents and Students: From time to time it becomes necessary to adjust school boundaries when new elementary schools are being opened. Because of the opening of two new elementary schools in Herriman and South Jordan, the Jordan School District Board of Education has asked the District administration to develop options for adjusting elementary school boundaries in the area. You are receiving this letter because the elementary school your student attends may be affected by these proposed boundary changes. In this letter you will find information about the process for adjusting school boundaries, and how you can give feedback to the Board of Education regarding the boundary options under consideration. Two proposed boundary options were recently posted at www.elementaryschoolboundary.com. These options each involve changes to the boundaries of Butterfield Canyon, Daybreak, Eastlake, Herriman, Midas Creek, Silver Crest, and Welby elementary schools, in various combinations. Every boundary option would result in a change from a year-round calendar to a traditional calendar beginning 2017-18 school year. The site also includes a link to a survey, which is the method that has been established by the Board of Education for patrons to give feedback regarding boundary options. In addition, the site provides detailed maps and answers to frequently asked questions. By visiting www.elementaryschoolboundary.com and completing the survey, patrons can rate the boundary options and provide additional comments. All interested parties are encouraged to provide feedback by completing the online survey. Three open houses are also being held for the public to review the boundary options and to ask questions of Jordan School District staff involved in the process. The same information presented on the website will also be made available at the open houses. Patrons do not need to attend the open houses to give feedback, since all feedback can be given online through the survey at any time. Internet access will be provided on site to patrons who wish to give feedback that evening. The open houses are scheduled as follows:
January 4 - Elk Ridge Middle, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Media Center January 5 - Copper Mountain Middle, 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Media Center January 5 - Fort Herriman Middle, 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., Media Center
The Board will review and consider the public feedback it receives through the survey before taking action on any boundary change. A public hearing will be held by the Board two weeks before a final decision is made, which could take place as early as January 24, 2017. In the meantime, we encourage you to visit www.elementaryschoolboundary.com to find more information about the process for changing boundaries, review proposed boundary options, provide feedback to the Board through the online survey, and access the most current information regarding the boundary change. Sincerely, Jordan School District Administration
