KORYU INTERNATIONAL (KI)
Independent Union of Martial Arts Teachers - Union des Professeurs d’Arts Martiaux Indépendants The UNION is born of the experience of several professors of traditional and modern disciplines. The objectives of the union, a non-profit organization Act of 1901 registered in France, are: - To be an international organization dedicated to the development of traditional martial arts. - To provide its members regulated insurance for practicing disciplines. - To guarantee its members independent exercise of their teaching activity. - To help teachers and their students find training facilities. - To provide a training structure for sports instructor qualifications in martial arts. - To organize seminars and clinics led by national and international experts. 1- The union works transparently and in a non-hierarchical model: Each teacher and member club manager is in accordance with the Act of 1901 and the Statutes of the union, a member of the College of conventional representatives of the association. Conventional representatives exercise on equal individual representation and decision-making power, the presidency, treasury and general secretary duties of the association. There is thus no president, no plenipotentiary representative: all associative decisions of the union vote are taken by all teachers / Club Managers, at a majority plus one. Among the conventional representatives, some perform, according to the voluntary principle, the keeping of accounting and administrative records, and hold such information and the corresponding registers at the disposal of all other members on a permanent basis. Note 1: The clubs located outside of metropolitan France must contract their own insurance in their jurisdiction and do not have to pay any annual insurance contribution. 2- The union operates on a cooperative, collaborative and responsible model: Each year, the conventional representatives establish an estimated operating budget they validate together and thus define the cash needs of the association. Once a budget is defined and approved, clubs financially contribute, each in proportion to the number of students that make them up: for example, if the budget is 1000 euros, with four members clubs each having 10, 10, 20 and 30 students, the contribution of each club will be 1000 / 80 euro rounded up, and thus be 15 euros per student (which will be increased by the individual insurance fee, if the club is in France). The clubs located outside of metropolitan France may be partially or fully exempted from financial contribution to the annual budget of the Union. This is decided case by case, by the College of conventional representatives. Clubs that organize seminars or clinics remain 100% masters of their income. 1
4- Mastery and ability Certificates issued by the union: The clubs that award degrees and certificates to their students do internally, without any interference. Students and teachers who wish to obtain official recognition of their level by the association may make a request to the College of conventional representatives. The recognition of a level of mastery or ability is accomplished on dossier submission and presentation of an examination before a jury, and results in obtaining a printed certificate. This applies equally to the progression and recognition by equivalence (eg holds a 5th Dan ZNKR wishing to obtain a Shidoshi certification -see below- or above). The only costs to be incurred by the person obtaining a certificate are those induced by printing the corresponding document on paper in A3 format, and shipping where applicable, to the exclusion of any other fee. 5- The union issue certificates in the traditional Japanese style, ie: Yudansha (first level of progression Menjo) Ikkyu: equivalent "brown belt" (aspiring to black belt) (agreement on the student’s teacher) Sho Mokuroku: equivalent "black belt 1st dan" (on agreement of the student’s teacher) Jo / Hon Mokuroku: equivalent "2nd dan or 3rd dan," according to the discipline and per individual cases Dai Mokuroku: equivalent "4th dan" Kodansha (second level of progress Menkyo) Shidoshi "equivalent 5th dan" Renshi: teacher of the first degree Kyoshi: Teacher of the second degree The certificates for each level are marked with the obtained Japanese title and, where applicable, the words "International Unified Dan," when it can be applied to the corresponding discipline. Examinations for obtaining a certificate are sanctioned by a jury of at least three members: a Renshi or Kyoshi certified in the discipline shown, the holder of an equal or greater level Dai Mokuroku in a traditional discipline, and the Professor of the title contender. No certificate beyond the level of Kyoshi is issued by the association, people pretending to a title of Hanshi 8th Dan or, for example, are to appear before a representative organization of their discipline (such as for example ZNKR). 6. All other operating provisions of the union are made by the conventional college representatives as and events, and based on the evolving needs of the Union, which are, by definition, not frozen.
