BIOS Matthew Moore is the Director of Bands and Music Department Chair at William Fremd High School (Palatine), where he oversees the Music Department and band program of almost three hundred band students. Prior to his current appointment he taught at Meridian Junior High School, Stillman Valley High School, and Harry D. Jacobs High School. Mr. Moore earned three degrees from Northern Illinois University Bachelor of Music Education, Masters of Music, and Masters of Educational Administration. During Mr. Moore's tenure at Fremd High School the band program has grown from 130 to 300 students. The program currently offers five symphonic bands, two jazz bands, and an extra-curricular marching band as performance opportunities. Under his tenure the Fremd Wind Symphony received the following recognition: invited to perform at the IMEA All-State Conference, selected for the University of Illinois Superstate Band Festival, performance at the Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic (2007 and 2011, demonstration ensemble) Mr. Moore has served as guest conductor/clinician for the University of Illinois “ISYM Summer Camp”, IMEA District 9 Junior High Jazz Festival, Crystal Lake IGSMA Contest, Naperville IGSMA Contest, and School District U-46 Middle School Honors Band. He has also presented as a clinician at both the IMEA All-State Conference and the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. Mr. Walsh has taught band for twenty years and is in his seventh year as Fine Arts Dept. Chair and Band Director at Glenbard West. Previous to West, Mr.Walsh spent eight years as Director of Bands at James B. Conant High School in Hoffman Estates, where he oversaw a 250-student band program, which included five concert bands, jazz band, marching band, and pep band. In addition to band directing duties, he was the music department chair and district music chair overseeing the coordination of music activities for all five schools in District 211. Before Conant High School, Mr. Walsh served as interim director of bands at Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn, director of bands at Proviso West High School in Hillside, and Southwest Chicago Christian Schools in Palos Heights, where he taught band for 5th through 12th grades. He is also a former marching member of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. in Rosemont. Mr. Walsh's bands have performed at numerous festivals throughout the United States including the University of Illinois Superstate Festival. He has served as a guest conductor for various ensembles, and has judged concert and marching competitions, as well as solo and ensemble events. Mr. Walsh earned a bachelor of arts degree in music from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and a double master of music degree in wind conducting and music education from Northwestern University in Evanston, and has completed advanced coursework in educational leadership at Roosevelt University in Chicago. Mr. Walsh is heavily involved in the Illinois Music Educator Association, and has served as District I Junior High and District VII High School Band Chairperson, District VII High School Band Representative and the All-State Honor Band Chairperson. He is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, a nationally recognized music honor society, and has received a Citation of Excellence Award from the National Band Association.

Thank you so much!!!! BIOS Joshua Thompson has been the band director at Lake Zurich High School since 1997. Prior to that he taught for two years in the Kankakee School District. He directs the Lake Zurich’s three concert bands, two jazz ensembles, pep band, pit orchestra and the 206 member marching band. Mr. Thompson earned his Masters in Music Education from Vandercook College of Music and has his Bachelors from Northwestern University. In 2008 he was selected by the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce as the year’s “Outstanding Educator.” He studied clarinet with Russell Dagon and Clark Brody and played in bands with Don Owens, John Paynter, and Steve Peterson. He was a member of the 1994 Disneyland All-American College band. He met his wife, Ruthie, at Harvest Bible Chapel in Rolling Meadows and they now reside in Lake Zurich with their four children, Jack (12), Kate (10), Dane (8.5), and Gracie (7). Mr. Thompson’s bands have performed an Miwest Band & Orchestra Clinics (2012 & 2013), the Chicagoland Invitational Concert Band Festival and the U of I Superstate Concert Band Festival. Mr. Thompson is also involved in ILMEA, having served as District VII Band Representative while currently serving as the Jazz Representative. Jeremy Figlewicz joins the Fremd Band Program for the 2013-2014 school year after previously teaching middle school and high school programs throughout Illinois and Michigan. Mr. Figlewicz grew up in Palatine, Illinois and is a proud alumni of Fremd High School. He is a graduate from Michigan State University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. Mr. Figlewicz was a member of the Michigan State Wind Symphony and the Spartan Marching Band, as well as VicePresident of the Gamma Epsilon chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity. In addition to classroom teaching Mr. Figlewicz has worked with numerous marching bands and drum and bugle corps from across the country. He currently teaches with the Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps from Rockford, Illinois, who are twotime Drum Corps International World Champions.
