July 20th, 2017 Dear Parent/Guardian, It is my great privilege to welcome you and your student to Pioneer Middle School for the 2017-2018 School Year! Middle School is an important time in a student’s life. It is a time of transition, growth, and preparation for their future. Here at Pioneer Middle School we believe in working together in partnership with our families and community to support the academic and personal success of all our students during this pivotal time in their lives. PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System) plays an important role in the support system we have created for your students. Please help us by ensuring your student show’s P5 Pride by being Prompt, Prepared, Positive, Polite, and Productive today and every day! In addition, I encourage you and your student to review the Student/Parent Handbook which further outlines the expectations and structures established to further support our students. The Student/Parent Handbook is available on our school webpage at https://goo.gl/Gg6gho, Student Handbooks will also be printed inside your students’ Academic Planner. Please note there was a significant change to our Cell Policy for the new school year. Effective this year, students MAY NOT have their cell out during school time, this includes break and lunch, Students may carry cell phones on school grounds, but these devices are not to be seen, heard or cause a disruption during the school day or activities. This policy models the policies of both Pioneer and Frontier Elementary, and I believe will help us promote a positive learning environment for all students. Should you need to contact your student during the school day, please contact the office. In preparation for the upcoming school year all students and parents/guardians must attend Walkthrough Registration. Walkthrough Registration Monday August 7th, 2017 Pioneer Middle School Gym 6th Grade: 12:00PM-1:30 PM 7th Grade: 1:30 PM- 2:45 PM 8th Grade: 2:45PM- 4:00 PM Parents, with students in multiple grades may attend walkthrough with the eldest child. For example, parents with students in 6th and 8th grade students, would attend walkthrough during the 8th Grade time slot. In advance of Walkthrough Registration, please complete the First Day Packet paperwork. The following documents must be brought to Walkthrough Registration for students to participate in Walkthrough. Please note all forms listed must be submitted for students to pick up their student schedules. Required Form Acceptable Use Agreement (Yellow) Annual Notice Signature Page (White) Bully Pledge- Two Sided (Purple) Parent-School-Student- Charter Compact (Pink) Emergency Card Update (Blue) Chromebook Agreement (White) Chromebook Insurance Form (White) In addition, during Walkthrough Registration all students will take a picture for their Student ID Card and Yearbook photo, please note the dress code will be enforced for these photos. Picture packages will also be available for purchase for those interested, through Island Photography, photo prices are included in the 1st Day Packet as well as on our website.

Students will also have the opportunity to purchase PE clothes and Yearbooks. The Transportation Department will also be available to answer any transportation related questions. For additional information regarding potential fees please see the chart below. Please note these items are optional and not required for purchase. Students not purchasing the standard PE Uniform will be required to wear a gray shirt and black shorts. Currently, Pioneer Middle School accepts cash or check for payment, or payments via the My Payments Plus Program, for the items listed below. What if I cannot attend Walkthrough? The Middle School Office will be open from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM on August 8th for parents to return the forms listed above. Should you be unable to turn in these required documents prior to the start of school, you may bring them to your student’s homeroom teacher on the first day of school. Homeroom assignments will be posted on the west gate, near the bike rack on the first day of school. What do I do next? Complete the required forms prior to Walkthrough Registration, bring all completed forms with a parent/guardian to Walkthrough Registration. Our PTC has been instrumental in supporting athletics, PBIS, academics, and extracurricular activities on campus. Their efforts have benefited all students and it is a wonderful avenue for parents to become more involved on campus. I personally attend all PTC meetings as I strongly support and value the positive relationship and partnership PTC brings to our campus. The first meeting of the year will be on Thursday August 17th at 6:30 PM in room 907. I look forward to seeing all of our students and parents at Walkthrough on August 7th.
