What movates you? What is it that gets you out of bed in the morning and drives you to take acon? This queson was posed to me the other day in a book I was reading. It really is a great queson. In fact, it is the foundaonal queson about the direcon your life is taking and why. Knowing our why has long been touted as the cornerstone for having a successful and happy life. In our society today so many people and corporaons are trying to influence us and, in some cases, even decide for us what our why should be. Life is about so much more than ge#ng by and looking forward to Friday. I know from personal experience how easy it is to get wrapped up in the day to day hustle, losing sight of why we’re doing what we’re doing. In past arcles I’ve wri'en about se#ng year end goals and se#ng up a plan for the next year. That isn’t what I’m talking about here. I’m talking about your life purpose. Many books have been wri'en about finding your purpose and they are usually helpful. A good friend of mine talks about how we all spend much me planning for a vacaon, but spend li'le me planning out our lives. If you are over 30 years old and haven’t found a why for your life it is me to get busy. How are you going to make a difference? Inside each of us are special talents and gi/s. A great place to start is to evaluate your talents. A/er that look at areas of special interest that you are passionate about. Then simply find a way to pull them all together. You may find, if you are honest and open, that you are called in a direcon you’re not expecng. Whatever you do, do it with passion and have fun. Life is hard. It is also short. Do not choose to live it in boredom or frustraon. Theroux said it best when he said, “Many people live lives of quiet desperaon.” Don’t be one of those people. Make 2015 a year to enjoy and remember.
