A November bond measure has been proposed to fund projects that would:
Relieve existing overcrowding and meet projected enrollment needs:
Improve student safety and security district-wide, including seismic upgrade:
A number of the schools in Sherwood are overcrowded and enrollment is estimated to grow in the near future. To address the current overcrowding and allow for future growth, the Bond projects will allow the District to increase capacity by 2,000 students District-wide. The bond will replace Sherwood High School with a new school on a new site to accommodate future growth, significantly increase the size of athletic fields for schools and community use, and finally, reduce District’s reliance on portable classroom buildings.
The District will make improvements to enhance student safety by securing building entry lobbies (aka safety vestibules), install closed-circuit TV cameras, improve emergency alert systems, improve lock-down systems, and conduct seismic upgrades throughout the District.
Create 21st Century learning opportunities: The District will create opportunities for our next generation of learners by creating environments that support enriched learning opportunities for students to prepare them for college and career. To help accomplish this, the District will purchase curriculum that offers math, science, and language arts for all school levels, upgrade the technology infrastructure in all school buildings, and purchase new and replace technology for both students and staff.
Cost Information: The estimated cost for these projects is $247.5 million. The estimated tax rate on bonds previously approved by voters is $3.70 per $1,000 of assessed value. If approved, the tax rate is estimated to be $4.20 per $1,000. The estimated $0.50 rate increase per $1,000 of assessed value would approximate $125 per year on a home assessed at $250,000. This equals approximately $10.42 per month.

Protect community investment in existing facilities: To care for our investments, the District will address deferred maintenance needs of school buildings to improve indoor air quality and reduce maintenance costs to improve learning environments for students and teachers. These deferred maintenance projects include: • Seismic upgrades • Improving/replacing interior and exterior building components • Roofing
• Address district-wide Deferred Maintenance • Construct, furnish & equip New Sherwood High School with target completion date of June 2020 • Convert current SHS to District Middle School with target completion date of September 2020 • Convert Middle Schools to Elementary Schools with target completion by September 2020 • Upgrade district-wide technology • Relocate District programs to current Hopkins School site with anticipated completion date of March 2021
• Upgrade plumbing, heating and ventilations systems to allow for continued efficient operations. Continuing the District’s investment in students, the District will: • Convert the existing Sherwood High School into one middle school, to provide more Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) opportunities in small learning communities. • Convert the existing Sherwood Middle School and Laurel Ridge Middle School buildings to elementary schools to provide expanded learning opportunities and increased enrollment capacity in the District for elementary learners. • Relocate District programs and departments to the current Hopkins Elementary site.
