Middle School Exploratory Clubs Fall 2016 - 10th Period
* Registration: Tuesday, October 25 -Monday, October 31 * Classes Begin: Wednesday, November 2 * Classes must have 5 students to run Monday: Ukulele with Sandy McKelvey, $50 (Limit 8 students) 6 Week Session: 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 11/28, 12/5, 12/12 This ukulele class for beginners and continuing students will explore the fundamentals of reading music and recognizing chord diagrams. Students will learn the basic four chord progression in popular music and be able to play a multitude of songs by the end of the six week session. Students must have their own ukulele. If you don’t own one, the instructor will help you pick out a good student ukulele. Upon enrollment, you will be forwarded the link for a recommended starter ukulele available for purchase on Amazon. Tuesday: Intro to Italian with Sakura Ozaki, $50 (Limit 8 students) 6 Week Session: 11/8, 11/15, 11/22, 11/29, 12/6, 12/13 Want to learn Italian? This class is a great place to start! Taught by Sakura Ozaki, who lived in Italy, this course will introduce students to the language and culture Wednesday: Games with Jessica Rozman, $50 ( Limit 10 students) 6 Week Session: 11/2, 11/9, 11/16, 11/30, 12/7, 12/14 This exploratory club is the idea of one of our students! Students will play a variety of board and card games. Thursday: Coding with Pam McCluskey, $50 (Limit 10 students) 6 Week Session: 11/3, 11/10, 11/17, 12/8, 12/15, 12/22 This class is for both beginner and experienced coders. Students will learn computer programming and game design. Students will need to bring an 8 gigabyte flash drive with them to class. Students are welcome to bring in their favorite games to share. Friday: Improv with Diana Hird, $50 (Limit 6 students) 6 Week Session: 11/4, 11/18, 12/9, 12/16, 1/6, 1/13 Improvisational theater is a form of theater where most or all of what is performed is created at the moment it is performed. In its purest form, the dialogue, action, story, and characters are created collaboratively by the players as the improvisation unfolds in present time, without use of an already prepared, written script. Whether you are a seasoned performer or a novice, the skills you learn in this course can be used outside the context of performing arts to develop communication skills and creative problem solving.
