Telephone: (603) 536-1444 Fax: (603) 536-3792 www.prhs.sau48.org PROFILE SCHOOL: Plymouth Regional High School, fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), is a comprehensive high school with a regional technical center that accepts Career and Technical Education (CTE) students from Newfound Regional High School on a tuition basis. The school offers courses in English, mathematics, science, social studies, world languages, technical education, and fine arts. The class of 2016 graduated 100% of its class. 65% of students were accepted and are now scheduled to attend four-year colleges. 19% are scheduled to attend 2-year colleges and 16% entered directly into the work-force or the military. Plymouth Regional High School has experienced both growth and decline in enrollment in the past twenty years. In 1992 the school had a population of 572 students. In 2005 the school reached a high water mark in attendance at 902 students. A steady decline over the past decade sees an enrollment for the 2016 – 2017 school year at 688 students. The high school serves the towns of Ashland, Campton, Holderness, Plymouth, Rumney, Thornton, and Wentworth through a cooperative agreement established in 1990. Ellsworth and Waterville Valley tuition students to the high school through an area agreement established in 1970. Warren students may tuition to the high school through an agreement with the Town of Warren. Plymouth is the center for commerce and services for the local economy, which includes the surrounding towns served by the high school. The permanent resident population of the area is 20,000. Seasonally, the population nearly doubles with the influx of vacationers, second-home owners, and college students. The local economy is primarily based upon small businesses, service industries, and tourism. Some examples of the businesses include motels, restaurants, banks, bookstores, hardware stores, and retail outlets. Local manufacturing firms take advantage of the natural timber resources of the area. Plymouth is also the home to Plymouth State University and Speare Memorial Hospital. SCHOOL GOVERNANCE: PRHS is part of SAU #48 and has its own thirteen member school board, the Pemi-Baker Cooperative School Board. This board has representation from each of the seven towns within the district. Each town in the district has its own public K-8 school with their own local school boards. INSTRUCTIONAL ORGANIZATION: Classes run on a block schedule of four 90 minute classes which meet every other day, totaling an eight-period. Each student can earn six to eight credits per year, allowing a possible 32 credits at graduation. Graduation requirements are 24 credits. Cooperative Work Experience: Juniors and Seniors who are at least 16 years old and enrolled in a technical program may enroll in work-based learning with approved local employers in their chosen field for credit and pay. Extended Learning Opportunities: Students may earn credit towards graduation or supplement regular learning opportunities by completing extended learning opportunities through such things as independent study, private instruction, internships, community service, apprenticeships, and on-line classes.
