2017 CISA International Women’s Conference Student Leadership Workshops and Sexual Assault and Harassment Workshops

Dear Student Congratulations, you have been invited to attend the 2017 Student Leadership and Sexual Assault and Harassment workshops arranged by Council of International Students Australia (CISA) in Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, NSW. This year’s conference will start on Saturday 2nd December at 9:00am until 4:00 pm Saturday 2nd December 2017. There will be a meet and greet on Friday 1st December at 5.30pm the Accommodation for students who have travelled to the conference and staying on campus. Visions and missions of workshops: The CISA is national peak student representative organisation for international students in Australia. The CISA represents international students on all levels and in 2017 we are representing 550,000 students. Women portfolio in CISA has the responsibility to advocate for the interest and needs of women international students, promote cross cultural awareness and improve skills and status of women international students. Leadership workshops will unlock your leadership potential, contributing to society with civic leadership and public speaking and presentation skills. We develop holistic, far-sighted people who help their communities grow and flourish. The sexual assault and harassment workshops train students to identify situations of concern, and provides knowledge and tools to encourage safe and successful interventions. The goal of the program is to reduce the incidence of sexual and relationship violence by training participants to intervene in safe and creative ways. Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga campus this year is hosting this CISA conference for international students from regional universities. Four international students from each regional university have been invited to attend this event.

Objectives and learning outcomes of leadership workshops: The workshops will be focused around presentations, discussions and team-building activities that will address aspects of leadership. Topics of discussion include, but are not limited to:
Inspire students to utilise and increase practical leadership skills
Build a network of collaborative students that creates a sense of connection.
Engage in critical thinking to influence the world for the better and stretch personal leadership boundaries to explore professional and personal development.
Discussions and various team-building activities will:
enable students to understand the different aspects of leadership assist students in realizing their own strengths encourage students to hone their leadership skills provide students with the opportunity to be recognised as leaders at Universities
Objectives and learning outcomes of Sexual Assault and Harassment workshops: Topic of discussion for sexual assault and harassment workshops include:
expand students’ understanding about what constitutes unacceptable or criminal behaviour ensure that support is available for those students who experience sexual assault or harassment educating and training students to improve knowledge and better equip trusted members of the society to appropriately handle disclosures
Student roles and responsibilities
Responsibilities: Each student participant will register and participate in all activities as part of the workshops. They will provide feedback at completion of the conference and share information with their representative organisations upon return to their campus. It is expected students at the workshop will: a. b. c. d.
behave in a manner that demonstrates respect and tolerance; adhere to the University rules, regulations, policies and procedures; actively and positively participate in the conference and workshops; and use university services responsibly.
What is covered by conference? The 2017 International Women’s Conference has been supported by CISA and Charles Sturt University. Students are responsible for their travel to Wagga Wagga. Breakfast, meals while at conference, and an evening dinner will be provided to students that will be staying overnight on Saturday 2 December. You are responsible for any other snacks or meals outside of this time. The cost of transport to get the University campus from airport and return will be covered by the conference and also if students need to go into town later in the evening. Please let Forough know what time your flight is arriving in Wagga Wagga so transport can be arranged.
Accommodation expectations: Accommodations will be provided for students. Students staying in Accommodation are expected to: a. fully accept responsibility for their actions; c. respect the rights of others; b. follow all reasonable directions of University staff. You will be responsible for maintaining the general tidiness and cleanliness of the room allocated to you and are expected to assist in maintaining general cleanliness and tidiness of all common facilities. Furniture, furnishings and other property must not be removed from student rooms or common areas. Furniture from areas intended for general use, is not to be taken into student rooms.
Travel and accomodation and catering Traveling: Students are responsible for their travelling to Wagga Wagga. Wagga Wagga is approximately 500km from Sydney and the fastest way to get here is to fly. https://www.webjet.com.au/specials/domestic-airfares/
Accommodation Wagga residence on campus Cottage-style accommodation on campus at CSU in Wagga provides a welcoming home away from home for students. All rooms are fully furnished with a bed, mattress, desk, wardrobe and chair. Washing machines, dryers and clotheslines are also available in the residential community.
