INTRODUCTION Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said was one of the great exponents of Eastern Medicine (Tibb-eUnani). He had the vision to establish a University which could enliven the intellectual traditions of the Golden Era of Muslim Civilization, had always been his most cherished dream. Faculty of Eastern Medicine is the pioneering Degree awarding institution of Hamdard University (Jamia Tibbia Sharqia / Hamdard Tibbi College / since 1958) took shape as a constituent institution (Hamdard Al-Majeed College of Eastern Medicine upgraded in the year 1995). Keeping in view the above mentioned, Hakim Mohammed Said’s vision for the Faculty of Eastern Medicine is compatible with Hamdard University to develop it as an excellent center for higher education now at the verge to grow in to a citadel of knowledge for the new millennium. •

DEGREE PROGRAM OFFERED
In order to develop and operate academic research programs for the advancement of Eastern Medicine, the faculty offers the undergraduate degree programs: Bachelor of Eastern Medicine and Surgery – (Unani)- (Regular – 5 Years) M. Phil. (Unani Medicine) and Ph. D. (Unani Medicine) programs are also offered on regular basis. •

Intermediate Science (Pre-Medical) / “A” Levels (Biology) / 12 Grade / B.Sc. (Biological Sciences). •
DURATION OF THE DEGREE PROGRAM
Bachelor of Eastern Medicine and Surgery – (Unani)- (Regular – 5 Years) BEMS is a 5 year program comprising 222 credit hours of coursework spread over 10 semesters. Core subjects have 88 credit hours and Area of Concentration (AoC) related subjects have 134 credit hours. •

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Unani Medicine continues to be practiced in many of the countries today. The countries where it has to some extent, enjoying an official status are: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and South Africa. In Pakistan, in the mid-sixties, the government under the then President ordered the official registration of Hakims. Tibb enjoys wider public acceptability in the countries of Middle East, Far East, Europe and North America. In the areas, resurgence is being observed in the vogue of herbal medicine. B.E.M.S. (Unani) graduates can start their own practice by establishing their own clinics and providing healthcare services to the people. They can offer effective clinic and patient communication and ensure responsible clinical practices. As the contemporary healthcare requirements need complementary and Alternative Medicine as an integral part of therapeutic discipline. B.E.M.S. graduates can provide consultation at various hospitals in the field of disease prevention to improve the standards of health care. B.E.M.S. graduates can also be of value to herbal medicine industry, where they can apply results of their research and evaluating techniques to supplement scientific and patient-related efficacy in herbal medicine. ADMISSION SCHEDULE Admission Process The process by which students are admitted to the program is based on quantitative and
qualitative criteria and clearly documented. This process is periodically evaluated to ensure that it is meeting its objectives. 1. Program Admission Criteria: The HACEM follows the HEC Criteria for admission in BEMS programs, 2. Policy regarding Program/Credit Transfer: The students are allowed program/transfer of credits in accordance with university rules and regulation and very case is seen on its merit. 3.
