Ames High School Band Boosters Fall General Meeting August 15th 2016 7:00 pm Ames High Auditorium Called to order by Katherine Werner at 7:08 Present: Chris Ewan, Jeanette Green, Martha Stewart, Katherine Werner, Russ Hoffman, James Pritchard, Terrasa Grewell, Kaela Black, Rosalie Tulp, Lisa Frana, Kelly Magoon, Dawn Brasch-‐Prince, Sonia Harold, Penny Brown Huber, Jennie Bloom, Soma Mitra, Mercedes Tarte, Laura Litster, Helen Drake, Eun Cho, Anne Nelson, Diana Figuerdo, Jeanne Paskach (and two people I cannot determine from email address alone) Welcome and Intros: Katherine Werner and Martha Stewart welcomed everyone, thanked them for coming and had the exec board introduce themselves. Secretary’s Report: Jeanne Paskach is new. Minutes from the last meeting were approved with a motion from Jennette and seconded by Kaela. No one opposed the motion. Treasurer’s Report: Jackie was absent. To be updated via email. The Year Ahead: Chris Ewan started by relaying a strong “Thank You!!” to all peoples present as well as to all the volunteers that not only have already stepped forward but continue to do so throughout the year. We have strong numbers out for Marching Band this year with the number fluctuation around 300 students. Our 14-‐year-‐old uniforms are looking a bit in need of repair, thus this is the year of a fundraising campaign, March On, with the help of Ames Education Foundation. Our goal is to raise $170,000 by the fall of 2017 in order to purchase 350 new uniforms. More information on how we can help will follow. The monies that are raised through Band Boosters has helped the band purchase two new baritones, concert coats, the new freshman pullovers, and the marching band t-‐shirts for all the students in marching band. We welcome Mr. Paul Thompson, band instructor at AMS, who will be helping our high school program with the additional 4th band as well as student lessons. The All State Music Festival this year has 47 students involved at AHS. Preliminary auditions will be held at AHS Sept 7th to choose the 30 students that will then audition at the district level. SCIBA auditions will be held in December. A student does not have to have auditioned for All State in order to audition for SCIBA. The first day of Band Camp was a success!!
Band Booster Membership: John Linch began by saying that so far this year we have 5-‐7 members but expects this to rise as the year progresses. It is preferable to pay by check and not to panic if it is not cashed immediately. This is easier to do in batches. But all attempts will be made to send a confirmation email to let the Booster know their check has been received. Booster Membership forms will be sent out again via email. Please mail checks to: John Linch, 1428 Arthur Dr., Ames IA 50010. Volunteers: James and Kaela Black introduced themselves. Very soon an email will be sent out with all fall volunteer opportunities. It was clarified how a parent of a new freshman could help out by ways to volunteer (none of which require a major time commitment – just willingness and availability.) Some of these include handing out uniforms (not shoes) before and after performances, sitting in the stands with the students during the football games to keep track of items, selling tickets and handing out programs at concerts, reception at the Marching Band Spectacular. PLEASE SIGN UP TO HELP! At the first game, August 22nd, we will man a table with all band forms: Booster membership, sign purchase and spirit wear. Committee Reports: Uniforms: Jeanette encouraged everyone to sign up to PLEASE HELP especially during the back-‐to-‐school fittings going on this week. Photography: Russ Hoffman will be taking photos throughout the year. Our account on Shutterfly can be found at
[email protected] password: loyalty2017. He is looking for a person to mentor as this will be his last year at AHS as a father of a senior. Any names would be appreciated. Spiritwear: Shannon Taylor was not present but the final design is being worked on. Look for an order form via email. Yard signs: Terrasa had an example of a yard sign to show us. These can be ordered for $25 via a form sent by email (or will be at the football game table August 22nd) They are quite sturdy and if purchased when your student is a freshman, will most likely last all 4 years. We do not use these as a fundraiser. Publicity: Martha confirmed that the news e-‐letter went out. Hard copies can be made available for those who would like a printed copy. Facebook: Soma Mitra is moving forward as the new administrator of our Facebook. Conversations are still being had to try to link our site up with the Ames Community School District site (as it had been in the past.) It was suggested that snippets from our newsletter be posted occasionally on Facebook. New Business: Nope Next meeting: Thursday, September 29th at 7:00pm. Adjourn: Motion by Jeanette to adjourn Second by Kaela. All approved. Adjourned at 7:56pm.
