FROM THE DESK OF THE PRINCIPAL B-C # 1 Family, Can you believe we are entering our 8th month of school? We continue to have exciting events for our families as we begin Read Across America Week and will host our Math Night on March 2, 2017. Similar to our ELA Curriculum Night, we will have fun-filled interactive Math themed activities beginning at 5:15 pm. We also, have our festive Book Fair that will be going on at the same time. Please come out and support these events. Once you leave our school, we encourage parents of 5th graders to explore the Busbee Creative Arts Academy magnet fair that will be happening until 7:30 pm. This event is for any 5th grader that has a high interest in developing their creative talents in an integrated arts program in the middle school setting. Our Character word for the month of February has been FRIENDSHIP! We all know how valuable it is to have a good friend, someone you can count on to talk to, help you, and care about you through thick and thin. For some students, making friendships can be tough, so it’s important to talk with your children about the qualities of a good friend, so they can make positive friendship choices throughout their life. Navigating the ups and downs of friendship is a part of life, and having an open dialogue with your kids about friendships is a way to provide support. While we may not be able to guide every friend interaction as our children move through the elementary school years, we can continue to talk to our children about their friendships, coach them through interactions, set up safe environments for our children to interact with their friends and get to know those friends (and the parents) ourselves. This level of involvement and communication allows us to see the dynamic of particular friendships - and see when friendships are really positive and when they may become problematic.
