Wellspring Farms-Slideshow 6th Grade Wellspring Wrap-Up (Field Trip)
Wellspring is a non-profit organic vegetable farm in the West Bend/Newburg area. At the farm, students learned the difference between organic and inorganic food, how to make two different variations of composting, how composting works, how to care for a garden, tried multiple organic vegetables from the fields, went on a tour of the farm, and were able to feed the chickens. Although short, the trip was very informative and our six graders represented TJMS very well. Due to Wellspring cancelling the field trip for the other half of the six graders (circumstances out of their control), Wellspring came in to the Health classes and brought with them a variety of different organic vegetables/fruits for the students to try. The students seemed to have a great time trying some foods that many had never even heard of! Overall, it was a great experience and we hope to carry on the tradition with more classes next year!
After Christmas break we will be getting our fitness on! Students and staff will be tracking their fitness for a whole school challenge. More news coming soon!

Indoor/Winter Fitness:
Can we keep the fitness going when the weather turns? Can we utilize TJMS space in the hallways and classroom to find ways to keep kids moving? That is what we will be trying! (Can students be trained to follow TJMS hallway rules even when they are traveling in packs of 50?)

Physical Fitness: Great Exercise By Mira Stimac
A good indoor exercise that works your abdominal muscles is a slide plank. Get in your plank position and put your feet on a magazine if you are on carpet or a rag if you are on hardwood. Slide your feet forward and backward keeping the rest of your body the same. Start with 10-18 reps, then move on to 18-20, 22-24, 26-28. After Christmas break we will be getting the our fitness on! Students and staff will be tracking their fitness for a whole school challenge. More news coming soon!
