Murray State Visit
Explore students toured the campus of Murray State University. Middle School Education majors served as tour guides and discussed necessary 21st century skills that make college successful. As fall finals approach, college students talked about the importance of time management and study skills. They also emphasized the importance of main idea, notes, planners, etc. in studying for exams. The college students said they wished someone would have taught them early on how to properly use a planner. Other tips they shared included tutoring, study buddies, and limited distractions. Our tour guides said it is important to care and not be afraid to ask your teacher questions. Students also toured various locations on campus such as the "Shoe Tree," Curris Center, the "quad", and wellness center.
Wonder "When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind."
Thankful "I'm thankful for my Father in heaven, my family, and our kids here at SMMS." --Mrs. Barrett "I am thankful for redemption and the random moments of awe in nature. I am also thankful for my family and watching my daughter grow." --Mrs. Darnell "I am thankful for my family, especially my son, for students who make every day interesting, and my faith that reminds me that a higher power is in control. --Mr. Darnall "I am thankful for more than I can list. --Mr. Hayden
"You can't blend in when you were born to stand out."
Explore students watched Wonder at the Cheri Theater. It is based on the New York Times bestseller of the same title. Wonder is an inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who enters fifth grade, attending a mainstream elementary school for the first time. The book and the movie encourages everyone to "choose kindness."
"I am thankful for my family, especially my husband—who takes care of me and makes me laugh every single day. I’m thankful for my cat, Dot; she’s perfect, fluffy, and makes me happy. I’m thankful for my kids: my cheer babies, my mentees, my 7th graders, and my Algebra I kiddos—every single one. I’m thankful for the people I work with, I love them and count them each as blessings in my life. But I’m most grateful for my Heavenly Father, whose mercy and grace renews me and makes me whole. --Mrs. Kirby "I am thankful for my faith, family, and opportunities. --Mrs. Murphy
