Welcome to Mrs. Deci’s Kindergarten September 2, 2014

Greetings Kindergarten Families!

SAVE THE DATE

This newsletter will be sent home weekly. It will outline classroom news, special assignments, and upcoming school events. Please read carefully to find out about what is happening this week in room 3.

September 10 – Open House – 6-7

THE FIRST DAY: Today was very busy! Some of the highlights included singing songs, touring the building, playing on the playground, and meeting new friends! We read Pete the Cat, and discussed our hopes and dreams (goals) for kindergarten. THIS WEEK: We will focus on daily routines and procedures. We will discuss why we come to school, and what our “hopes and dreams” are for the year. Next, we will develop a list of class rules that will help each child achieve their goal. A list of classroom expectations will be sent home next week.

Language Arts: Students will: • Listen to and talk about a read aloud. • Discuss the characters and setting of a story. • Dictate what they want to learn in kindergarten.

Math: Students will: • Explore length • Listen and count to 10 • Count backwards from 5 • Explore pattern blocks.

Please complete and return all forms in the beginning of the year packet as soon as possible. Forms can be returned in your child’s folder and they will be sent to the office. If you plan to volunteer at school and/or attend field trips, please make sure you have completed the volunteer form. Additional forms can be sent home upon request.

Social Studies: The student will: Talk about the importance of being safe, kind, and responsible at school.
