SUPPORTING COMMUNICATION BETWEEN SCHOOL AND HOME Our school website is also a good source of current information – www.warrenschool.co.uk Please also check out the Warren Association Facebook page Dear parents and carers Welcome back! What a lovely sunny start to the new school year. It was fabulous to see so many smiling faces as the pupils arrived for their first day back at school last week. A few people (including me) are struggling to remember where different classes are based this year but we will soon find our way around again. We are very pleased to welcome some new children to our school this term;Gregory, Jasmine, Harry and Kallum have joined our Nursery whilst Travis, Connor, Ava and Emma have joined classes in our Primary department and Faith has moved back to Lowestoft and is joining Secondary 1 on 12th September. This means we now have 121 pupils on roll which equates to 113.8 full time equivalent places as some of our children also attend their local primary school for part of the week on a dual placement. Two new classrooms were installed over the summer, on the car park nearest to the top field. Key stage 4 are based in the new rooms and so far everyone is very pleased with how things are going. The new rooms mean that we can now use a former classroom as an additonal meetings room, leaving the flat available for pupils to use across the week. Our small parent library will now move to the new meetings room, which will be available for Parent 2 Parent meetings every Wednesday. Another new development is the use of the gym every Wednesday for Rebound therapy trampoline sessions. These sessions will be offered to an identified group of pupils, with class staff who have had specific training, leading the sessions, following programmes drawn up by Rachel, physiotherapist. I hope you enjoy reading our monthly newsletters and find the information we share useful. If you have ideas for other features we could include, please contact the office with your suggestions. Last week in primary and secondary assemblies, we focussed on “happiness” – what makes us happy and how we can help others to feel happy. The children came up with some really interesting ideas, which can be seen on the display in the hall. Wishing you a very happy September. Best wishes, Jan Do you have a couple of hours to spare on a Wednesday? We are looking for some volunteers to act as “spotters” during Rebound sessions in the gym. No experience is necessary and staff will offer support. If you can help, please contact the office. Thank you. Well done Warren School. At the beginning of the summer holiday, we found out that we had been successful in achieving the Families First Award, which is accredited by the Family and Childcare Trust. This is the result of 18 months hard work in which we had to demonstrate how we support and work with parents and families in our school. This is a nationally recognised award and so we are really proud to have been successful. Special thanks to those parents and staff who contributed their views and to Denise and Gemma in the office who worked hard to pull all of the evidence together.

Warren Association Events Warren Association is a group of enthusiastic parents and staff who meet each term to arrange events and activities to raise funds for the school. The following events are planned in the coming months. Warren Association AGM – Tues 20th Sept 7.30pm at school Quiz Night on Saturday 22nd October at Carlton Community Centre. 7 for 7.30pm start. £7 each includes a fish and chip supper Christmas Craft Fayre on Sunday 20th November - 11 am to 3 pm here at school, free entry. Stalls £5, booking forms available from the school office Christmas Party on Sunday 18th December at Carlton Community Centre, 4 to 6.30 pm, £3 pp, includes a buffet Raised Bed for EYFS Outdoor Area

During last Summer Term Class 1.2 were covering a topic called “The Great Outdoors”. Part of this topic involved growing vegetables and flowers. For example the children grew potatoes, runner beans, sweet peas and sunflowers. But to facilitate growing larger plants we needed to journey to another part of the school. As this was such a popular activity it was decided that what we really needed was our own raised bed situated in the EYFS area where the younger children could access it more easily as part of their Outdoor Learning Curriculum. To this end Louis from Class 1.2 wrote a letter to ask if Smith Brothers Timber Merchants would like to assist us with this project by donating the necessary wood. We were extremely grateful for their generous donation as well as to Les our caretaker for helping to create the finished item along with Sean (Class 1.2) during the Summer Holidays. Car park update On the advice of the local authority Health and Safety team, we have made some changes to the car parking area at the front of school, which we feel have improved safety for all. Please do take note of the changes and only park in designated parking areas. Senior staff will be monitoring the traffic at the beginning and the end of each school day, so please do speak with them if you have suggestions about further improvements. Thank you.
