Introduction The recently established department of Biosciences at MAJU is offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs in important areas of biological sciences including Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. These programs are aimed to provide a composite set of fundamental knowledge and cutting edge skills of modern medical, pharmaceutical and agricultural sciences and technology.
The BS Biosciences Program: The BS Biosciences program provides strong academic foundation to students of experimental biology. It is focused on training students with modern biotechnological skills which boost their potential to pursue careers in the local and international market, academia and research enterprises. The curriculum is designed to meet the current demand of qualified human resource in biotechnology sector. This program fulfils the academic standards set by the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan. Upon completion of the program, the graduates with BS Biosciences degree will be able to join R&D organizations in the fields of pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, healthcare management, academics, regulation etc.
Faculty: The department has well-qualified, foreign-trained and highly-skilled faculty with extensive experience in different areas of Biosciences including biotechnology, genomics, protein chemistry, recombinant DNA technology, pharmaceutical start-up establishment and university-level teaching.
Lab Facilities Available: The department is equipped with modern facility for conducting academic and research experiments related to molecular biology, biochemistry, clinical and applied microbiology, genetic engineering, gene editing, DNA analysis, plant tissue culture etc.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission: 1: For students pursuing admission after Higher Secondary Education (HSE): i) Minimum 45% marks in HSE (Pre-medical or Pre-engineering) or equivalent qualifications ii) MAJU Admission Test or HEC admission test iii) Interview

2: For students pursing admission after B.Sc. (14 years of education): i) Minimum 45% marks in B.Sc. (with Biology subjects) or Equivalent qualification. iii) Student with B.Sc. degree will be provided admission in BS Biosciences (3rd year). However, each student would have to attempt deficiency courses (from Semester I to IV) which will be decided by the admission committee.
Program Duration: This is a four year degree program of 8 semesters with minimum of 134 semester credit hours (Cr. Hrs). There will be a Fall and a Spring semester in each year. The maximum duration to complete BS is seven years
Final Year Research Projects: Students will be offered to enrol for research project in the final semester. The selection criteria shall be based on merit and overall performance throughout the academic program.
Degree Requirements 1) Completion of coursework. 2) Obtaining a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on scale of 4.0 3) Completion of the internship.
