March 28, 2017 Dear Parent/Guardian: During the upcoming months, your child’s teacher and other faculty members will begin work on next year’s classroom placement. Teachers weigh a variety of factors when developing the recommended class lists that they submit to me for final approval. The overall objective is to balance class makeup. Special services, guidance or counseling, parent input, boy/girl ratio, high and average achievers, and classroom philosophy are all factors that are taken into account. The goal is to assemble an academically and socially balanced class. Parent input regarding a child’s strengths, weaknesses, friendships, and interests is an important part of this equation. On the reverse side you will find a form to share your concerns and thoughts on your child’s placement for next year. Please return it to school by April 6, 2017. Please note that we are asking for characteristics of your child and the classroom environment you think they’ll be most successful in. We will take this information into consideration as we work hard to configure balanced classes. If you have concerns about your child being placed in a classroom with a particular student, please contact your child’s teacher or Kathy Ferguson to discuss these concerns by April 6, 2017. Please do not include teacher requests on the parent input form. Due to the fact that these requests hinder objectivity during the placement process, all specific teacher requests will be whited out from parent input forms before reaching the placement teams. This form will serve as the primary way for you to communicate your thoughts to us in regards to placement for your child next year. Forms will be sent to all parents of students presently in grades K, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Please return to CES by April 6, 2017. Placement notification letters will be mailed home on June 1, 2017.
