Senior Research TechnicianBarley Breeding National Recruited Staff

Reports to: Barley Breeder (Hi-input program) Location: ICARDA SA Platform, Amlaha, India.

Main purpose of the position To assist the barley breeder to all duties and responsibilities needed to carry out the barley improvement program at ICARDA Platform, Amlaha, Sehore (M.P.), India.

Main responsibilities     

   

Undertaking field evaluation of all barley trials/ nurseries of ICARDA at Amlaha, India. Assisting in sowing, preparation of field plans, and production of field books. Supervision of land preparation, sowing, harvesting, threshing, and weed control of improvement experiments daily workers. Recording data on various aspects of heat tolerance screening of barley genotypes, and other improvement activities. Book keeping of the breeding program and creating data files of the observations. Computerizing pedigrees and data of different experiments on germplasm and breeding materials evaluations. Preparing seed materials for various nurseries for sowing at other stations and farmers’ fields. Recording of data on different traits, managing and summarizing data. Managing breeding activities and crossing program Perform any other job assigned as per requirement of program.

Education, qualifications and experience      

B.Sc. Agriculture/ Biotechnology/ Plant biotechnology and considerable demonstrated ability in field research. 4 - 5 years of experience in field / laboratory research in plant breeding. Ability to work in a team. Computer data entry/ analysis and communication skills (MS Office, Windows, etc.). Fluency in English and Hindi. National / international driving license.

Terms of appointment, salary and benefits The initial period of employment will be a fixed terms of contract for one year, with possibility of contract renewal depending on the performance and continued need for the position. Starting salary will depend on relevant qualifications and experience.
