Research Associate Cereal and Legume Quality Testing National Recruited Staff

Main purpose of the position To lead the Quality Laboratory in all duties and responsibilities needed to carry out quality analysis in cereal and legume species.

Main responsibilities The main duties and responsibilities will be:          

Undertaking quality testing activity in Rabat, Morocco for ICARDA mandated cereal (wheat and barley) and food legumes (chickpea, lentil, faba bean) crops. Develop Near Infra-Red Analysis (NIRS) as well as wet chemistry laboratory protocols to analyse seed quality parameters: gluten strength in wheat, malting quality standards in barley, nutritional parameters in cereals, cooking time parameters in food legumes Keep up-to-date on developments in quality analysis through the scientific literature, and publish research findings in ISI peer-reviewed scientific journals Near Infrared screening of cereal and legume grains Development of correlations for NIRS analysis Carry out assigned field and laboratory research activities Collecting, managing and summarizing data Maintenance of laboratory standard and assigned equipment Supervising daily workers Performing any other job assigned by the supervisor

Education, qualifications and experience    

PhD or M.Sc. in Biochemistry/Agriculture Biochemistry with specialization in quality analysis and with at least five to four years of experience in Biochemistry/Agriculture Biochemistry techniques. Experience with NIRS analysis for quality parameters of cereal – and legume species. Considerable demonstrated ability in field laboratory research Computer data entry and analysis skills (MS Office, Windows, etc.)

Good command of written and spoken English and fluency in Arabic Ability to work in a team and supervisor labor National driving license

Terms of appointment, salary and benefits Depending on the availability of funds, the initial contract will be for 2 years, of which the first year will be probationary period. Subsequent employment is determined based on the performance and continued need for the position.
