Chicago Collegiate Dean of Students Job Description The Dean of Students is directly accountable to the Principal for school culture and individual student wellbeing. The Dean of Students serves on the Leadership Team of Chicago Collegiate to ensure that all students are demonstrating dramatic student achievement gains and demonstrating the character traits and intellectual habits needed to succeed in the college of their choice, lead in their communities and change the world. The Dean of Students must embody Chicago Collegiate’s core values of Excellence, Courage, Pride, Grit and Zest. Responsibilities: Work closely with families, teachers, staff, and students to ensure our school culture is joyful, rigorous and structured, enabling our community to be strong and our students to thrive as individuals. Exemplify and demonstrate Excellence in a variety of areas, by: • Taking ownership for a joyful, achievement-oriented culture of high academic and behavioral expectations that enables students to thrive both personally and academically • Possessing an incredibly clear vision of what our desired school culture is; regularly articulating and acting on that vision in all interactions with students and staff • Refining the vision for the behavioral paycheck system; ensuring all staff are aligned on the system’s vision, executing consistently across classrooms and grades • Working closely with the Social Worker to ensure that student’s individual needs are being met; serving as a resource for families who need community resources to help meet their needs • Creating, planning, and leading rituals that celebrate student growth and achievement as well as demonstrations of the school’s core values, including incentive trips, and End-of-the-Year field lessons • Building and maintaining systems around homework, attendance, transitions, lunch, bathroom, and entry/exit procedures that are efficient and ensure a focus on academics and student’s gradual progression along the college readiness continuum • Working closely with the Leadership team on student enrichment opportunities Exemplify and demonstrate Zest in a variety of areas, by: • Embodying and teaching the mission, vision and values of the school to students and staff • Executing the paycheck system effectively, managing the integrity of the system and relevant data analysis efficiently and effectively • Analyzing school-wide trends around attendance, homework, behavior, and transitions and design responses to gaps which ensure desired results • Seeking feedback on a frequent basis and applying feedback immediately to continuously improve effectiveness Exemplify and demonstrate Pride in a variety of areas, by: • Investing students and families in Chicago Collegiate’s mission and core values, ensuring all students care deeply about their school community, their academic performance, their college graduation, and becoming the next generation of leaders in our community • Planning home visits to all families before the school year begins and throughout the school year as needed • Working closely with individual students who are struggling to meet behavioral expectations and communicating with their families regularly and with a strong sense of possibility • Planning events for families that deepen investment and our collective sense of community • Training all staff on classroom culture and management; coaching a portfolio of teachers in these areas

Establishing protocols that ensure regular teacher communication with parents; serving as the main liaison for parents outside of questions or concerns about a specific class Participating in other responsibilities that may arise as a part of the Leadership Team of Chicago Collegiate Communicate with teachers about referrals, closing the loop, etc.

Exemplify and demonstrate Grit in a variety of areas, by: • Reinforcing the mission with students, families, and staff, energizing all audiences about the revolutionary nature of our mission at Chicago Collegiate • Maintaining a robust personal organization system that ensures all key tasks are ultimately accomplished, from the most important big picture projects to the smallest details of student discipline Exemplify and demonstrate Courage in a variety of areas, by: • Motivating and focusing teachers, students, and families to maintain high expectations for behavior even in the face of challenges • An eagerness to lead by example and embody the core beliefs and philosophy of Chicago Collegiate Qualifications • Demonstrated record of at least 3-5 years of success with organizational, people, and school-based leadership • Highly qualified as defined under No Child Left Behind and fully certified and compliant with Illinois State Law • Demonstrated record of success with low-income students of color on both quantitative, objective measures as well as qualitative measures • Passionate belief in Chicago Collegiate’s mission and an unwavering belief that all students, regardless of demographics, can achieve at the highest academic levels • Exemplary level of cultural competence and ability to be both empathetic and firm, loving, and demanding with students • Strong vision of school culture with demonstrated record of success in building that culture in a analogous environment • Exceptional relationship building and communication skills with students, families, colleagues, and community members • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; flexible, able to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed • A passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture • Strong work ethic that accommodates high levels of responsibility, as well as prioritization and organizational skills with a detail-driven orientation • A strong desire to change the world through the impact of this position • Strong evidence of self-awareness, humility, openness to feedback, grit, gratitude and a sense of humor Compensation and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.
