(1) Parental Permission Form (2nd page)
1. We intend to conduct our Cadet Leadership Camp (aka “CLC”) at the USS Lexington naval ship museum (https://www.usslexington.com/) from Wednesday, May 11th through Saturday, May 14th, 2016. 2. This year’s CLC is a three day / three night event during which your cadet will learn about leadership, teamwork, and responsibility. The setting this year is the U.S. Naval Vessel the USS Lexington. We’ll be staying in Corpus Christi, aboard a real CV-16 Essex class Aircraft Carrier. Our visit will include tours of the ship, lessons on nomenclature and operations, and shipboard life. The cadets will partake in the many attractions the ship offers as well (e.g. 3D Mega Movie, scavenger hunt, etc.). 3. There is no cost to you or your cadet for this camp. All lodging, food, transportation, and training is paid for by the Marine Corps Junior ROTC Program. The only caveat is if your cadet would care to purchase snacks and/or souvenirs, or other miscellaneous items. My recommendation would be for your cadet to have access to $40-100 for snacks, souvenirs, etc. 4. We are limited in the number of cadets we can take with us. Unfortunately, due to the limited seats on a contracted charter bus, we can only take a maximum of 45 cadets with us. Males and females, of course, will sleep in separate billeting spaces, and they will be monitored by RRHS MCJROTC teachers and chaperones at all times. 5. We need ALL parental permission forms no later than 22 April. This stack of permission forms will serve as our confirmed roster that we will use to order appropriate meals and so on. On that note, though we have given every cadet this form, we will ONLY accept them returned from the cadet starting at 0700 on the morning of 22 April. We do this to allow all cadets and families time to assess whether their cadet is interested and able to attend, and then to allow all equal opportunity to submit the permission form first. We will number the permission forms in sequence as we receive them starting at 0700, 22 April. We will take as many forms as the cadets bring. If we receive more than 45 we will consider the sequence of submission and academic performance (passing classes and in no trouble of passing). We will only take submissions from the cadets themselves. I want the cadets to be responsible for maintaining the permission form, not losing it, and being aware enough of where it is and when it must be turned in. (Exceptions apply for an school-approved excusal reason). 6. We will be departing from RRHS on Wednesday, 11 May, and taking a charter bus to the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi. Once we arrive, we will be unable to transport your cadet back to Round Rock until we ride the charter bus back on Saturday, 14 May. We expect an approximate return to RRHS at 4:00pm on Saturday, 14 May. 7. While we are aboard the USS Lexington, if your cadet gets homesick, in trouble, ill, or simply refuses to participate, you, the parent, will need to pick him/her up from Corpus Christi. 8. This opportunity presented itself to us in the fall and we felt this was simply too good for the cadets to miss. However, as with any field trip in the school year, conflicts arrive. I have been made aware of cadets that have extremely important AP testing which conflicts. My apologies and regrets to this conflict; and I recognize, these are some of our best students. The same applies to conflicts which I am sure may exist with regard to spring sports and fine arts programs. This simply could not be avoided. 7. If your cadet is selected to make the trip with us, we will send future correspondence with more detailed instructions about when to show to for the bus, what to bring, etc. We will also post information to our website (www.rrhsmcjrotc.com). Bottom line, as details become more refined, we will push them out to cadets and parents. If you have an urgent question/concern, please feel free to email me at
[email protected].
