The cycling skills sessions for today will be changed to indoor activities. We have been very impressed with the DCC Cycle Skills programme. It is great to see more students cycling to school since this programme started. I have two very important notices that I would like to bring your attention too:Carisbrook School have a wonderful opportunity for you to take part in this years ‘Computers in Homes’ project for Term 1, 2014. What is Computers in Homes? Complete a computer course here at Carisbrook School and receive a computer and internet connection for only $50.00!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if you have a computer but it is older & struggling, or whether you have a computer but no internet, come along! We have graduated over 50 families through this programme since Carisbrook School opened in 2012. Training is done onsite and our tutor has been Tony Hayward, our ICT person. It is only 20 hours of training. We are also offering you the opportunity to be part of a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) project. This allows you to purchase a portable device (e.g. Samsung Tablet) that your child would bring to school for learning as well as having it at home. This would be a lease to buy costing you between $5 - $10 per week. The overall cost is subsidized by the 20/20 Trust & Dick Smith Electronics Ltd. These are amazing opportunities and deals. Please come along to Carisbrook School on Monday at 5.30pm where we will have representatives from ‘Computers in Homes’ to talk about these opportunities and answer any questions that you may have. Monday 17th February 5.30pm. – Computers in Homes & Bring Your Own Device. Pasifika Fono (Pasifika Consultation). I would like to meet with our Pasifika community on Tuesday 18 th February at 6.00pm. This is part of our Carisbrook School consultation. I would like to talk to you about your children’s education and how we can work together to provide more opportunities for learning for your children. Please come along and meet with myself and Board of Trustees representatives. Regards, Ben Sincock Principal

Head Lice
We have had many phone calls since school started about head lice. Please check your child's head daily and treat when necessary. We need all families to be vigilant with the prevention and treatment of head lice. There are many helpful websites that have great ideas to help prevent and treat head lice, here are a few ideas.
If your child has long hair tie it up each day. A bun works best. A few drops of Tea Tree Oil added to shampoo or watered down and sprayed on hair each day. Use Hair Straightens on your child’s hair once a week. Apply conditioner to the hair and then comb, comb comb with a head lice comb... Give the hair a good brush every day. 1 cup of white vinegar mixed with 2 litres water, then pour over hair after a normal hair wash. Use over the counter treatments or get a prescription from your family doctor - re-treat 10 days after first treatment. Hairspray or hair gel applied each morning. Wash all bedding, hats etc. in hot water. Also if your child has school swimming lessons we ask that they wear swimming caps, some children received free swimming caps last year and should still have these at home.
Social Worker in Schools Hi, my name is Cindy Harliwich and I am the Social Worker in Schools (SWiS) for Carisbrook School and Concord School. I work with children one-on-one or with small groups of children for lots of reasons including issues with friends or peers, problems at home or school, low self-esteem or confidence, and strategies for identifying and managing their feelings. I am also available to support parents/caregivers or provide referrals to other supports and resources within the community. Social Worker in Schools is a free, voluntary support service and parental consent must be received before any support can be provided to your child. Please feel free to contact me to discuss a referral if you believe that your child or family would like my support. Office: 4563400 Mobile: 0272244447 Email:

After School Care - Pine cones wanted
If anyone has pine cones lying around their property, would they like to drop them off to the College Street site, where the After School Care programme is run in the interim, as we would like them for an activity we will be working on with the children. Even if you only have 1 or 2, they would be most appreciated. Thank you
