Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili awarded the World Bank’s Regional Director in the South Caucasus Henry Kerali with the order of “Golden Fleece,” for his outstanding service and close cooperation while working in Georgia. Prime Minister Garibashvili hosted a farewell meeting with Henry Kerali, whose mission in Georgia is now complete. During the meeting, the Prime Minister applauded Kerali’s efforts, noting that through his direct work, the World Bank has implemented several significant development projects across Georgia to improve economic productivity and the people’s welfare. Ongoing projects include road infrastructure, energy sector projects, regional development and agricultural support. The Prime Minister also highlighted the World Bank’s efforts to support one of Georgia’s key infrastructure projects - the construction and rehabilitation of the East-West Highway, which aims to connect Tbilisi to other regions within Eastern Georgia, and to ports, recreational and tourist centers across Western Georgia. Deputy Prime Minister andMinister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri also attended the meeting.

On June 24, Irma Kavtaradze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia participated in the working group meeting on small and medium-sized business strategy. The event was also attended by the representatives of international organizations operating in Georgia and other state offices, as well as entrepreneurs working in small and medium – sized business. The small and medium-sized business strategy, targeted at 2016–2020 years, is being elaborated with the respective action plan through the coordination of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, with close cooperation with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and through support of German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). According to Irma Kavtaradze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the strategy involves several major directions and respective ways of its implementation, including creation of institutional framework, development of competitive human resources, internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises, access to finances and promotion of innovations and researches. The main principles of the Small Business Act for Europe and best practice of the EU member countries in the direction of medium-sized business policy will be envisaged in the strategy. The elaboration of the action plan of the strategy will be complete by the end of the 2015. The elaboration process is being conducted by the working group in which representatives of various state offices, as well as business sector are participating. Efficient implementation of small and medium – sized business strategy will promote development and increase of small and medium-sized business and enhance of its competitiveness. This is very important for increase of employment and creation of new jobs, as well as for establishing at local and international markets. The strategy will be reviewed at the OECD Annual meeting – Eurasia Week in November, 2015.

A memorandum of cooperation between LEPL Innovation and Technology Agency at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Information Technology Center Mziuri and Company Omedia was signed. The document was signed by Irakli Kashibadze Chairman at Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency, Giorgi Todria, director at Information Technology Center Mziuri and Nodar Davituri, Director at Omedia. On the basis of the memorandum, the sides will establish an innovation laboratory. The laboratory aims to train high-qualified staff equipped with practical knowledge at an early stage. They will be able to be employed at highly paid positions or to start their own hightechnology business activities. Innovation laboratory is a project that envisages cooperation between company and education institution in the field of education. The laboratory is equipped with modern technologies that are used by students to create and develop new, innovative projects. The partner company of the laboratory will provide the teaching process with the tasks oriented towards the market requirements. Besides, according to the achieved agreement, various events, seminars, master classes, trainings and competitions, including the so-called hackathons will be held on the basis of the laboratory. This will be the fifth innovation laboratory that will be established through the support of Innovation and Technology Agency at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

On 25th of June, 2015, Doctors of the health care “Medina” conducted a free medical examination for eco migrants in Tsalka Municipality, by the Initiative of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara. Within the campaign, the local population had a chance to take a free medical examination from the doctors like: (Therapist, pediatrician, surgeon, neurologist, cardiologist, urologist, obstetrician-gynecologist, Otolaryngologist, ophthalmologist, endocrinologist and echoscopist ) 500 patients benefited from the free medical services. The Director and Mena-gynecologist of health care center “Medina”, Mr. Jumber Ungiadze held a cesarean section. Free of charge medical examination action processes got acquainted the deputes of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs of Ajara Levan Gorgiladze and Ramaz Jincharadze, Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia Mr. Sozar Subar, the Governor of Khulo Municipality and the Governor of Kvemo Kartli. Sozar Subar met eco migrants in Tsalka, most of them are from Ajara Region, he got acquainted the process of legislation the houses from the state. According to him, the process will be completed in a few months, and 571 families will receive apartments from the State. International Investors Association of Georgia helped 5 Families in Tsalka with food and personal hygiene items.

On June 20th the business community of Poti and those who support the region came together to support Believe’s annual Charity Gala event and help children with special needs as well as socially vulnerable families. This special one-night benefit gala took place at 7pm at newly opened Hilton Batumi Hotel, located at 40, Rustaveli Street, Batumi, Georgia. The foundation raised over GEL 100,000 and the event was a great success. Funds raised will support the organization’s mission of supporting socially vulnerable families and children with special needs. BELIEVE Foundation, is a non-profit, nonpolitical organization, which provides aid and support to children with disabilities in Poti, Georgia. The event gathered more than 200 participants from various local and international companies and included: dinner by IoannisKritikos - the chef of Hilton Batumi, refreshments generously donated by Coca Cola Bottling Company Georgia and ice-cream donated by Barambo. The guests also enjoyed a delicious cake from Torti Gerotskoy, the well-known Tbilisi-based baker. The evening featured live performance by The Fourth Season.
