gia, European choice and common goals, which envisage the democratic, stable and successful building of the statehood. It was reiterated at the meeting that decision made by the country for political association and economic integration is truly solid. Association Council welcomed the progress achieved by Georgia in the all-inclusive reforms implemented in the judiciary system of the country. Parties discussed the topics of EU Cooperation Agenda, including the following: implementation of the Association Agreement (AA), economic integration with Europe and further intensified sectoral cooperation. One of the key topics of the Association Council was the visa-liberalization, which is of tremendous importance for Georgia and serves as an evidence of political support of the country from EU. It was mentioned at the meeting that Georgia has complied with all the requirements defined in the Visa-Liberalization Action Plan and focused on the need to quickly complete the decision-making process. Specific ways forward towards this end were also discussed at the meeting. They will facilitate the implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA). Association Council positively views the encouraging trends observed in the trade relations between EU and Georgia after the partial enforcement of the DCFTA. Parties clearly noted the importance of generating more success stories upon gaining exposure to new markets for commodities produced in Georgia, along with the need to proactively spread the information on advantages offered by the DCFTA to increase the volume and inflow of Foreign Direct Investments (FDI). Senior EU officials assured the government delegation of Georgia in the clear support towards the territorial integrity of the country within the internationally recognized borders. Association Council is the top level formal institution of political dialogue between EU and Georgia, which supervises and monitors the implementation of the Association Agreement.

This suffering may challenge anyone any day. At moments like this we should stand by each other and help survive the problems that may be tackled. All the rest is the God’s willing!” noted the Prime Minister. Head of the Government of Georgia urged people to share the spirit and support this noble initiative. “We will continue doing our best to make the project as grand as the affected angels deserve” noted the Prime Minister of Georgia. For the first time in the history of Georgian winemaking, the Badagoni Company will sell 5,000,000 bottles of wine in the Chinese market, a relevant memorandum between the company and Chinese Wenzhou Bydoway Import & Export Co was signed at the Badagoni winery in the village of Khodasheni. The signing ceremony was attended by Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Minister of Agri-

culture Levan Davitashvili. The Head of Government congratulated Badagoni on its 10th anniversary and wished it success. According to Giorgi Kvirikashvili, what distinguishes the company, besides its top-notch equipment and technical excellence in Europe, is the fact that Badagoni combines the best traditions of Georgian winemaking and modern technology. “It is this very synergy that makes possible the success of Georgian wine and occupying this niche which Georgian wine rightfully deserves, and we are talking about a premium niche and a premium niche only. Georgian wines are not just mass consumption goods. They belong in a premium niche because Georgia is commonly known-and rightly so-as the cradle of wine. The Georgian kvevri earthenware is an example of world cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO’s,” the Prime Minister stated and thanked His Eminence Metropolitan David of Alaverdi and representatives of the Badagoni Company for playing a historic role in the introduction of Georgian wine in the global markets. According to the Head of Government, it is very important that Badagoni exports wines to 32 countries across the world. Overall, the export of Georgian wine increased by 28% last year, which is a very important indicator. Giorgi Kvirikashvili congratulated Badagoni on signing the memorandum with the Chinese company on selling 5 million bottles of wine and expressed hope that the document, and the numbers written therein, will require updating in the near future. “The export of Georgian wine to China, a market of inexhaustible opportunities, does not end here. We have completed negotiations on the free trade agreement with China, and I hope it will be signed soon. We have consent from Chinese Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng that the agreement’s provisions related to wine will come into force upon signing. We believe that this will multiply the competitiveness of Georgian wine in the Chinese market. Of course, the current trends in our relations with China are very important. This year, we were planning to export 3-3.5 million bottles of wine to the Chinese market, and today we can state that, as of November, our export has exceeded 4.8 million bottles. In other words, it will exceed 5 million bottles by the end of this year,” the Prime Minister stated and pointed out that, given the memorandum signed between Badagoni and the Chinese company, next year even more positive dynamics should be expected. According to Giorgi Kvirikashvili’s assessment, it is commendable that GAU5, a new wine brand from Badagoni, is about to roll out. The Prime Minister is convinced that this new trademark will prove a success. “I am convinced that it will be successful in the Chinese market as well, for which we aspire greatly based on the positive results the diversification of these markets brings about. It will be an absolutely stable export market for Georgia,” Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated. The Prime Minister singled out and thanked Giorgi Salakaia (the company’s head) and Metropolitan David of Alaverdi who played a historic role in the revival of traditional wines. He also thanked Donato Lanati, a Badagoni partner, whom he called the ambassador of Georgian wine in Europe, Minister of Agriculture Levan Davitashvili who “since the time when he led the Wine Agency has done so much to introduce the world to Georgian wine”, also the special guest from the People’s Republic of China, and the Governor of the Kakheti Region, who is also “engaged in the promotion and support of Georgian wine and its production.” Prime Minister visited the Badagoni winery and participated in the tasting of the company’s wines

The Prime Minister of Georgia stressed the importance of the signed protocol on Georgia’s accession to the Energy Community Treaty. It was stated at the meeting that the Georgian Government prioritizes the generation of more capacities using renewable energy resources. To this end, Georgia untapped its hydro resources and other sources of renewable energy in order to increase clean energy production. In response to questions raised by the lawmakers at the parliamentary majority meeting, Minister Nominee of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia spoke about some important issues: “Small and medium size business should become a major employer for Georgia. The business environment needs constant improvement. There is no need for any permanent, specific plans, since we live in a very competitive environment – we do and our competitor states gradually catch up. It is shown quite well through the dynamics of the Doing Business - we may lag behind with one or two steps, then enact certain reforms and go forward

again, etc. This is a dynamic and continuous process”- Giorgi Gakharia said. As the Minister Nominee said, it is very important to continue the implementation of the programs initiated by Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili. “Including the program Produce in Georgia, which mainly focuses on medium-sized businesses. We will also continue the microgrants program for the small businesses, which, in fact, contributes to the first steps of the commercial activities in the region, and enables an individual to “feel” the money raised through the own business. I think, our parliament members have personally experienced the success of this program”Giorgi Gakharia noted. As Gakharia estimates, the program of funding the start-ups is a unique in its sense, which encourages young people to involve in business processes and entrepreneurial activities. “We will definitely carry on the funding of innovative projects, and this is mainly aimed at supporting the small and medium enterprises. All these programs have successfully worked and will continue with them. The only thing we can do in this regard is to increase the effectiveness of these programs, for which we will spare no efforts” - George Gakharia stated.
