Almost 10 billion GEL will be spent on infrastructural projects in the next 3-4 years, and it is a very important process in our country’s physical transformation, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili commented on the expected launch of 2,500 infrastructural projects presented under the spatial planning reform component. According to the Prime Minister, it is a very important far-reaching program, and its implementation will result in access to all key services anywhere in Georgia. The Head of Government commended the performance of Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Zurab Alavidze and his staff, which ensured the finalization of preparatory work within unprecedentedly tight deadlines. “I believe that this direction will bring about the most tangible results because, for starters, it will create 40,000 new jobs. In addition, infrastructure will be transformed rapidly, enabling our country to better fulfill its geostrategic function,” the Prime Minister stated. The Head of Government wished success to the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Cabinet of Ministers in the implementation of this large-scale project and a vitally important component of the Government’s four-point reform agenda.

Air Traffic signed between the Governments of Georgia and India. The Agreement was signed by Giorgi Gakharia and the Minister of Civil Aviation of India, Ashok Gajapati. Flights between the countries shall be based on Open Sky liberal principles, which implies establishing of the air-enterprises and allowing them to determine the tariffs, flight frequency and provide air navigation safety requirements established by the ICAO. Air travel will be available between the various parts of the countries, which are or may be the points of the international air traffic. For air-carriers assigned by Georgia several destinations will be available including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Goa. “Open Sky agreement will facilitate development of aviation and flights. I think that since we are preparing to sign the Free Trade Agreement with a country and have already started to explore opportunities in this direction, direct flights and the Open Sky regime will contribute greatly to business relations and facilitate the rapid economic growth,” – Giorgi Gakharia stated. “This agreement is very important in terms of further development of the relations between Georgia and India. It serves to the facilitation of the relations between the nations, cultures and economies and in total, it is a great step forward. We also agreed upon the further consultations in order to establish direct flights between the two countries as soon as possible” – Georgian Ambassador to India, Archil Dzuliashvili noted. There was no Air Traffic Agreement signed between Georgia and India. However, the consultations on this issue were launched in 2016, when on November 9 of 2016 the Memorandum of Cooperation in Civil Aviation was signed in Tbilisi upon the meeting of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and the Minister of Civil Aviation of India. On 9-10 January, 2017, negotiations on the issue were held in Tbilisi and as a result, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Civil Aviation officials of the two countries. Final draft of the Agreement on Air Traffic was also adopted during the consultations which led to the signing of the Agreement on April 11, 2017.

and the members of the CIS. Signing procedures of the Free Trade Agreement with China and Hong Kong are almost accomplished. If the Free Trade Agreement with India is signed, it will open to Georgia one of the largest market in the world with 1,3 billion consumers. “We find launching of the feasibility studies to be a step forward that will bring additional energy to our country. Such agreements allow for the rapid economic development of our country and facilitates the diversification of the markets and production. Georgia is a country of open but small economy. Our goal is to become a service-delivery platform among the countries of great economies for developing trade and the Free Trade Agreements are to facilitate this process,” – Giorgi Gakharia stated. “It should be noted that this was the first such a high-rank visit to India during the recent years and it has a huge importance. The parties signed a very important document, which enables creating of working group that will start studying the feasibility of Free Trade Agreement between the two countries. It is a huge step forward in terms of increasing the investment flow, trade and economic relations and development of logistic links,” – Archil Dzuliashvili, Indian Ambassador to Georgia noted. According to the data of 2016, trade turnover between Georgia and India is increased by 53% and amounts to 99,60 million USD, which equals to 1,1% of the total trade turnover of Georgia. Export is also increased by 55% and amounts to 22 million USD.
