~~at/ong Bibe, a wholesome old-fashioned tearjerker from fledgling producer '

In an era when local film fare consists of gritty indie fare, romantic comedies, and Hollywood imports, wholesome, familyoriented entertainment will always have a place reserved for it, especially when the movie stars popular and talented child actors. Go over local film history and it will be revealed that the industry has seen through the decades how modestlybudgeted movies like "Mga Basang Sisiw" and "Mga Batang Yagit," to name two , turned out to be sleeper hits. Going farther back, one can cite how "Roberta" in 1951 starring super screen tot Tessie Agana made mothers and their kids cry buckets, making the film such a huge hit that it saved Sampaguita Pictures from bankruptcy.

R~gis Films and Entertainment, Inc. intends to revive that trend with its maiden offering called

Bibe." Make no mistake about it. "Tatlong Bibe" may bear the catchy title of a novelty s .. ng that went viral a few seasons back ,but the Joven Tan-directed movie does not feature I ything whimsical like children growing wings like real ducks.

"1atlong Bibe," says its director, is a teatjerker that revolves around three kids played by child ahors Raikko Matteo, Lyca Gairanod, and Marco Masa. Their paths cross while searching for tfuee ducks and they come in contact with troubled adults who behave worse than little c~ildren. In the end, the oft-forgotten values of optimism, gratitude, and inner renewal will come to the fore. The need to go back to basics is not lost on Regis Films producer Anicia Jason-Regis. 1

"Our battlecry is inspire, inspire, inspire," says the petite and effervescent woman. Regis is a mother and grandmother not only to her biological offspring and "apos" but even to the tho~1sands she has helped fmd greener pasture through her overseas recruitment company. I

Butithat world is so different from moviemaking. Witl1 "Tatlong Bibe," Regis had her baptism of fire as a producer and it made her appreciate the kind of devotion and commitment film I worfers invest in their jobs. "Odce I visited the set and 'yung loca tion was far from comfortable and duon ko naisip na I hindi pala ganuon kadali gumawa ng pelikula talaga." The1 three child actors are just too happy to be working with each other. Raikko and Marco pla~ed the title role in past ABS-CBN series "Honesto" and "Nathaniel" respectively, while Lyca waS the first grand winner of "The Voice Kids Philippines." "Ank gusto lang po namin ay makagawa kami ng palabas na makakaantig po sa mga h'l.ong mahonood nito," says Marco. Lending support to the three channing child perfonners are a mix] of industry newbies and veterans like Angel Aquino, Eddie Garcia, Dionesia Pa cquiao , Dia-fme Medina, Rita Avila, Sharlene San Pedro, Victor Neri, Luis Alandy, Edgar Allan Guzman, Ronnie Lazaro, Anita Linda, JK Labajo, Perla Bautista, Nikki Valdez, Lou Veloso, Ja:dna Trias atld Ernie Garcia. Prokucer Regis is not only generous with stories, all engaging and told animatedly; she is also bigJhearted enough to agree to donate part of the proceeds of the movie to charity. "Tatlong Bibe" opened in theaters la st Ma rch 1.

Reusing Waste Materials : Recycle Reusing the existing resources will reduce the need to process new materials. It is, for example, easier to recover and to reuse metals than to mine them from the earth. resou rces such as meta ls and fossil fuels are non-renewable. They are the product of geological processes that may take millions of years to complete. Reducing the need for new materials Rebuy will allow nature to renew itself, reduce the amou nt of energy used and amount of pollution in the atmosphere. A story of a rich family who exemplify the kind of uncaring, apathetic dwellers of their own cothmunity, who, by some twist of fate and a little black magic spell by a Soldier of Nature , all turh into garbage collectors and sorters, "KA WAL" is a docu.-jictionaljilm, which shows clearly the! facts about global warming, and how Recycling and Minimizing Waste play a big role in saJ ing people's lives and saving Mother Earth. It gives the younger generation a clear picture on !how it is to live responsibly as citizens, and learn the value of protecting their own lives, and the lives of their loved ones, from the fatal hazards of coal and fossil fuel burning, as well I as from uncontrolled, unmanaged waste.

I

GREENHE:AL TH Teaching Our Children to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rebuy By Krisha McCoy, MS , These four R's are simple environmental concepts that any child can learn, early on. When kids see the trash from their home being taken away by a garbage collector, it can be hard for them to grasp that this garbage actually ends up somewhere else, like in a landfill, and doesn't just disappear. But when you adopt environmentally responsible practices in your home, you teach your children not only about where trash ends up, but also how they can work with you to produce less garbage and thereby protect the environment.

1

· Here are some ways to put the four R's, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rebuy, into practice in your home . ./ Earth Day Every Day: REDUCE There are many ways you can reduce the amount of waste you create. Take your kids shopping with you and lead by example as you take the following steps to cut down on waste: Say no to disposable shopping bags. Bring your own reusable ones instead. Choose products that have the least amount of packaging. Buy in bulk when purchasing items like laundry detergent, shampoo, pet food, cat litter, a11.d other household items. Buy unpackaged items in loose bins when available, such as tools and produce. Use what you already have instead of buying something new whenever possible. Buy liquid products that are concentrated. Avoid single serving foods that require extra packaging . ./ Earth Day Every Day: REUSE To reuse means to continue using the products you have, instead of disposing of them and buying n ew ones. You can teach your kids to get in the habit of reusing by adopting these policies in your home: i Purchase reusable, rather than disposable, products such as mugs, dishes, cloth napkins, and metal · flatware instead of paper cups, plates, and napkins, and plastic utensils. Use refillable containers, like water bottles and soap containers, whenever possible. When you must use them, show your ldds how to take only as many single-use items, like paper napkins, as they need. Mend clothing and repair appliances and other products so that they can be reused, and have your kids help you sell or donate their used clothing and toys instead of throwing them out. Find creative ways to reuse items you might otherwise throw away. For example, find craft projects for used paper towel rolls, linens, boxes, packaging, and/or empty containers. Or donate them to your child's school to use. Use both sides of paper when printing from your computer. [ ./ Eartlll Day Every Day: RECYCLE .rytany products are recyclable, meaning they can be made into other products. The environmental dfficials in your community can tell you about the recycling programs in your area. Teach your kids to ~lace all recyclable items, such as glass, aluminum, steel, paper, and plastic, in the appropriate ~ontainers around your home. Storyline: EH, KASI BATA! Mo~ie Synopsis: Bullying is one of the country's persistent problems which haven't been resolved up to this date. In school, oftentimes we only see two faces of students - the bully and the victim. In our eyes and in our own discretion, the oppressed are the protagonists and the bullies are the perpetrators. But there's something we may never know- there must be a reason behind every bully's and victim's behavior. Let's take a glimpse of the story of a poor 10-year old Billy (Bugoy Ca.ri:fio), a transferee from a public school in the province and a product of a broken family. His mother, Aling Clara (Leah Viaje), has been working as a laundry woman for the Reyes family for years. Mrs. Reyes (Liberty Espiritu) is supporting his studies so there would be someone to stay with her son, Jacbb (Jerome Miles Manzano) and his orphaned nephew, Benjie (John Edward Perez) wh~never she is out to attend to her businesses. Billy sleeps with the two cousins in Jacob's roofu, not with his Nanay Clara.

Bill~,

Jacob, and Benjie are classmates in a private school in an urban community where h e wit;b.esses rampant bullying of bigger students to the smaller, weaker ones. Billy meets Midhelle (Mona Louise Rey), a petite, fragile-looking girl who is oftyntimes bullied in school. Th~ Grade 7 best of friends, Gerry (Carlos Dala) and Marco (Marco Chavez), together with his friehds, try to get everyone's attention by bullying classmates and other schoolmates who are in po match to them especially some of students in lower grades. Later on, the group sudcessfully gets Jacob and Michelle's friend, Harold (Carl Acosta), on their side. Harold, who used ,t o defend them from bullies in school, joins Gerry and Marco's group and tums into a bully.; There are times that Manuel (Edward Ropero), the school janitor, witnesses the group's misbt havior and consequently reprimands them. Teacher Rica (Krissha Viaje) displays an inten/ e disapproval of bullying. Billy plays a significant role in resolving an untoward situation which brings about changes in h11 life and in the lives of the kids, parents and teachers in the school. His wisdom and posi ve behavior towards everything that happens bring about light and realization to a ll cone rned.

Eh, If.asi Bata! is a character-driven film that reveals stories of several children in the u rban area.1At its heart are those with the most at stake and whose stories each represent a different facet1of this crisis. Lead by the country's most popular child stars Bugoy Carillo and Mona Louise Rey, the film intimately explores the lives of a few of the many people who bully and are ~eing bullied. Insights on how one behaves in school, how he reacts to situations and how he tljeats other people are artistically and dramatically imparted. Each revelation manifests signip.cant life experiences that greatly affect the total being of an individual. The whole story is prt sented comically, highly amusing and entertaining for minor audiences but the message of b/ llying is duly emphasized and well addressed. Therle 's alway s a reason that prompts an individual to behave in such a manner others would hardly understand, be it good or bad - there's always a story behind every bully and every bullfed person.
