Title: A&R Manager, Ninja Tune Records Position: Full-Time Location: London, United Kingdom Salary: Competitive with excellent benefits Closing date: 4 August 2017 Ninja Tune is seeking an A&R manager to scout and develop new talent and artists for the label and its imprints (Big Dada Records, Counter Records, Technicolour Records). Ninja Tune's A&R department operates as a primary resource for talent scouting and record making. The A&R department at Ninja Tune allows us to locate and sign new talent and continue making records for existing roster artists. The department is responsible for all aspects of the creative and artistic process including talent discovery, artist signing and contract negotiation as well as choice of production partners. The A&R Manager will be expected to develop strong relationships and constantly interface with producers and songwriters. You must be very organised and must be able to schedule and move artists around efficiently as well as create and oversee artist collaboration. Day to day ideas will include setting up sessions, collecting songs and tracks and taking ideas to the finish line. Ninja Tune's A&R department is the creative nerve centre and quality control for the identity of the label. Job Description: Reporting to: Head of A&R and CEO, the A&R Manager will act as a talent scout for Ninja Tune and imprints (Ninja Tune, Big Dada, Counter and Technicolour) and: • • • • • • • • • •
Oversee signing and contracting with artists and third parties on a day to day basis; Be responsible for sourcing collaborations, co-writing features and remixes for artists albums on roster;
Be the primary support and resource for all A&R activities and provide assistance and A&R direction on assigned artists and projects;
Play an active role in crafting albums and managing artists to ensure they remain on schedule to complete albums;
Create and deliver weekly talent reports in line with label briefs, which must include highest quality of tracks from producers from around the world, filtering demos submitted to the label;
Maintain and manage full time and part-time talent scouts, overseeing submission of weekly talent reports on a timely basis;
Creating budgets and tracking revenue on artist campaigns;
Work closely with internal and external marketing, publicity, digital and retail departments to ensure maximum exposure of album in all markets globally upon completion of albums;
Maintaining relationships with DSP’s and radio pluggers and ensuring tracks are worked extensively;
Play a part in developing the A&R strategy for Ninja Tune and its imprints.
The role also involves developing strong relationships quickly and consistently with unsigned talent, artist management teams, booking agents and venue talent buyers and the ideal candidate must therefore have creative flair and a strong understanding of the music industry and trends, but also possess good business skills and have financial acumen.
To be successful in this role, you must be educated to at least degree level in a commercial subject such as business, finance or management or similar, and have proven experience in the music industry with knowledge of music trends across different genres and an understanding of streaming services such as Spotify, Apple and Pandora, along with a basic understanding of song writing, composition and production concepts. You must also have excellent client handling capabilities and strong communication and people management skills and must have an extensive rolodex within music, fashion, art and culture. An understanding of the label’s history (and its imprints) is key.
