Youth Internship Program
Introduction: The Youth Internship Program is to develop youth leadership and participation in the region. A youth volunteer leader or staff with active involvement in the YMCA will be provided with exposure to the regional YMCA mission-oriented work and thrusts as a youth Intern. Selected young leader/s will assist in APAY youth related work or programme responsibilities. S/he will work under the supervision of the APAY General Secretary and Executive Secretary. At the end of the one-year programme, s/he will share the experience gained with the home Movement and APAY. The youth Intern will be expected to a continued leadership role in the local/national YMCA. Objective: To provide an opportunity for selected youth to be actively involved in the Area Alliance Secretariat’s work and mission-oriented programme responses, and to motivate them for further engagement in the YMCA work with a better understanding of the YMCA at various levels. Specific Objectives: To provide an opportunity for young leaders to plan, lead, organize and coordinate Area-level youth programmes particularly GCE trainer’s training programme To support the Area Alliance in material/resource development on youth works To support the Area Alliance in implementation of communication strategies (youth website, social networking, newsletter) To plan and organise the Youth Assembly 2011 with Youth Committee To work closely with Youth Committee and implement/co-implement their youth related programmes (e.g. Uni-Y/EASY Net, etc) Duration : One year, preferred (starting March 2012) Criteria for Selection: Aged between 20-30 Willing to engage in youth work and other international programmes. Computer-literate Has an active involvement with the YMCA as a staff or youth volunteer leader Open and flexible towards cultural diversity. Willing to play an active role in the youth network of the APAY Has good working knowledge of English, both spoken and written. Allowance: USD500/month One Round trip travel to the place of former residence in the home country A shared apartment provided for free Health insurance provided Selection and Work Processes: Interested Intern should secure recommendation from the Home Local YMCA, after which the application should be submitted to the National Movement for endorsement. Upon confirmation of selection for the programme, the Terms of Reference / Responsibilities for the Youth Intern will be jointly established by the selected participant, the National Movement and the APAY. The Intern will report his/her learning experiences and insights to the National Movement and the APAY.
