Potential huge development on Green Belt between Hinchley Wood & Long Ditton Elmbridge Council is making plans that could lead to the building of up to 2,000 new homes for 5,000+ people on Stokes Field / One Tree Hill - effectively building a new community the size of Hinchley Wood. The plans could lead to: • The complete merging of Hinchley Wood and Long Ditton, connecting them with Hook to create one super conurbation. • The total loss of our green public space, nature reserve and allotments - a bio-diverse, open space which is used daily by residents and which helps stop the spread of Greater London into Elmbridge. • The creation of major new access roads through our communities: for example the reconfiguring and widening of Manor Road and Bankside in HW and Woodstock Lane near Squires in LD. • Extreme pressure on local infrastructure – for example on GP and hospital appointments and on primary and secondary school places. • Even more parking and traffic chaos in rush hours and school run times. • The complete erosion of our community identities and way of life, and a resulting drop in property prices.
A New Local Plan
In response to Government Policy, Elmbridge Council is creating a plan to provide up to 9,500 new homes across Elmbridge. The Council has already undertaken a review - its preferred option is to amend Green Belt boundaries in 3 separate areas of Elmbridge and build houses there. One of these areas is the Stokes Field / One Tree Hill Green Belt between HW & Long Ditton.

If you oppose the development you MUST make your views known, in writing, via the response form on the council website – BEFORE 4PM ON 10th FEBRUARY. Do NOT think that you cannot make a difference or that your one response doesn't matter. It does. Development in Hinchley Wood and Long Ditton is NOT a foregone conclusion. If enough people complete the online response form and are AGAINST the development we can stop it happening.
