September 28, 2011 Dear FUMC members, neighbors and friends, Great news! The City Council on Tuesday night voted 4-3 to deny the video lottery license to Gas ’N More. The following voted to deny the license: • • • •
Mayor Tim Reed Councilor Keith Corbett Councilor Ope Niemeyer Councilor Jael Thorpe
The following voted to approve the license: • • •
Councilor Tom Bezdichek Councilor John Kubal Councilor Mike McClemans
Lyle Prussman, owner of Gas ’N More, attended the meeting, but did not speak. Instead, the attorney he hired Tuesday afternoon addressed the Council on Mr. Prussman’s behalf. The attorney was Jeromy Pankratz with the firm of Glover & Helsper. He indicated that legal action may be taken if the Council voted to deny the license. Joining me to speak on behalf of our group was Jeanette Bare. Beth Willcock, who lives 42 feet to the south of Gas ’N More, also spoke in opposition as a neighbor. For a more complete report of the meeting, please read the attached article from the Sept. 28 edition of the Brookings Register. Again, I thank each and every one of you for helping with this issue, whether it was attending meetings, making personal contacts, writing letters and emails, or praying. It truly was a team effort! I encourage you to thank the Council members in a way you deem appropriate. This truly has been a troubling issue for some of them and may well continue to be. 1. Contact information is: a.
