OQTA TELECONFERENCE MONDAY 27TH MARCH 2017 Meeting Commenced 9.10am PRESENT Stuart Mackenzie, Robyn Stephens, Steve Rattray, Carmel Meurant, Steve Jones, Steve Rattray, Natalie Flecker, Elaine Jacobi, Peter Homan (General Manager) Carlie Mitchell (Members & Administration) APOLOGIES – Belinda Murphy, Michelle Hespe, Andrew Martin, Julie Woodhouse Moved Carmel Meurant Second S. Rattray That apologies be accepted CARRIED OQTA AWARDS HOST TOWN NOMINATION RESULTS: Survey Results – • A public release of the McKinlay Shire’s promotional video was released prior to the 22nd March before the decision had been made by the Board. • The McKinlay video going viral via FB/social media channels & radio was unfortunate that Outback Tourism Awards host town application has been made public prior to the voting was completed. These applications have always been confidential and are embargoed until a decision is been made by the OQTA Board. •
GM advised he spoke with a McKinlay Shire staff member and gave permission for them to host the video on line at completion of voting.
•
OQTA does not release nominees who apply and having Richmond Shire withdraw their host town nomination due to the public release of the McKinlay Shire’s promotional video was disappointing.
•
Final outcome of the host town voting survey was - Cloncurry Shire Council to host the 2017 OQTA awards. Nomination successful by 6 to 2 votes from McKinlay Shire Motion moved by Steve Rattray Seconded Natalie Flecker CARRIED Host town for the OQTA Tourism Awards to be announced 31st March A letter to be written to all nominees congratulating them on the high calibre of their nominations and advising that the criteria for the nominations will be strengthen up for future nominations. Also, noting the high number of applications received which was a record and the Board fully respects the amount of time that each town had put into their outstanding nominations. GM raised the issue that LGA’s are more into contestable funding and we put the idea back to Councils where there pot of monies can be matched $ for $. Councils have a preference for contestable funding for events or dollars could come from Industry. TEQ advised they are happy for GM to go out and speak with LGA’s. An Expression of Interest to be put out to all LGA’s Preference would be to cap at $15K for events
ACTION ITEM: Policy to be put in place for Contestable Funding LGA’s Next face to face meeting to be held in Richmond Wednesday 24th May Meeting closed at 9.55am President: Stuart McKenzie
