Screencast-O-Matic PRO Quick Reference Guide What is Screencast-‐O-‐Matic? Screencast-‐O-‐Matic is a web-‐based alternative to expensive screencasting software. It is a quick and easy way to screenrecord a variety of media presentations including microlectures, voice-‐over MS PowerPoint / Keynote, tutorials, demos, basic webcam capture, etc. Account Options Free Account – access up to 15 minute of free unlimited recording with branding. No editing features. You do not need to sign-‐up for an account. http://www.screencast-‐o-‐matic.com/. Pro Account – Includes unlimited recording time, zoom / draw and editing features. Log-‐in to the MCC Intranet > Forms & Procedures > CTL. https://www.mesacc.edu/intranet/forms Note: Do not share the credentials with anyone outside of MCC as this is an MCC exclusive license. Basic Screen Recording – Pro Account 1. In a browser window access or login to the Screencast-‐O-‐Matic Pro site at: http://www.screencast-‐o-‐matic.com/mesacc. 2. Open the website, document, MS PowerPoint, Keynote or other “on-‐screen” item you would like to record. 3. Click on Start Recording. Note: Screencast-‐O-‐Matic requires Java. Verify and download Java, https://www.java.com/en/. You may be asked to allow Java to run before you can record.
4. Set the screen recording area by either adjusting the handles around the dotted-‐line box OR use the area presets on the toolbar. Note: fullscreen is the easiest option to use when recording presentations. 5. Select the Record Icon (red dot) OR press Alt (Option) + P to start recording. Note: recording will begin after a 3-‐second countdown. 6. Press Alt (Option) + P to pause / stop recording.
7. When you are finished recording, pause or stop and then click Done in the toolbar. Note: If you want to discard your recording and start over, select Restart. This will erase the previous recording. Recorder Control Toolbar Options (in order from left to right) Record Icon – press to begin recording; in non-‐fullscreen mode this icon will change to a pause option. Hotkey: Alt (Option) + P. Microphone Selection – discover and select your built-‐in or connected microphone device. Volume Auto-‐Adjust – adjust your microphone volume settings (available on certain mics). Screenrecording Area Presets -‐ provides standard video sizes including a fullscreen option. Webcam (on/off) – include a webcam capture with your screen recording. Note: When you select this feature you will also have the option to record only your webcam. Recorder Settings (Gear) – hotkey and recording options. Close Button (X) – close the tools and interface. Show Advanced – additional option to adjust the number of frames recorded per second. Restart/Done – restart or complete a recording. Draw & Zoom – when recording an additional Draw & Zoom tool option will appear on the toolbar. Note: Draw options include shapes, lines and highlights.
