INDIO MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT DRESS CODE POLICY ALL IMS STUDENTS MUST BE IN UNIFORM EVERY SCHOOL DAY The school uniform is as follows: Shirts (boys and girls): Solid Black, White or Teal (Jade) polo shirts (Polo shirts with IMS logo sold at Yellow Mart only) Bottoms boys: Solid color pants or shorts with no holes, rips or frays (must have a minimum of a 4” inseam)

Skirts solid color and must be fingertip length Note: Shirts are not to be tied in a knot with a rubber band (tucked in is fine & optional). A student’s clothing shall not be disruptive to the learning process. The appropriateness of any questionable attire will be determined by school staff. This includes, designated spirit/free dress days, but is not limited to, the following: LOGOS/PICTURES: No logos are allowed other than the school logo. Inappropriate logos/pictures include, but are not limited to, those displaying or promoting alcohol, tobacco, drugs, sexual connotations, disrespect, graffiti/tagging, racism, gang affiliation, derogatory comments, skulls, blood/gore, pentagrams, “in memory of...”, profanity, racism, violence or weapons. This includes graphics on accessories or backpacks. BANDANAS and HAIR NET: These are a distraction and are to be left at home. HATS, HOODS, and BEANIES: Are to be removed while in classrooms/buildings and hats may not be worn to the side or backwards. SHOES: No sandals, flip flops, slippers, soft soles (safety concern), heels or platforms above 2” and shoes must have a closedtoe and closedheel. TOPS: Must have sleeves. No tank tops, muscle shirts, spaghetti straps, halter tops, tube tops, strapless tops, plunging neck lines, one strap or backless attire. Tops may not be seethrough, under garments must not be showing, and may not show the abdomen or back. PANTS: No oversized, baggy or sagging pants/shorts (with no holes, rips or frays). Pants and shorts must be worn on the waist and stay there without the assistance of a belt. Belts must go through the loops and buckle must not have any letters, numbers or symbols that affiliate with gang activity. No excessively tight pants. Leggings are only allowed under skirts/dresses. SHORTS/ SKIRT/ DRESS: Shorts must have a minimum of a 4” inseam with no holes, rips or frays. When a student is standing, skirts and dresses must be longer than the end of student’s finger tips when arms are hanging straight at their side. PE CLOTHES: PE shirts or shorts may only be worn in PE. MISCELLANEOUS: No clothing or jewelry identifying a particular group which might cause conflict. No writing on body, clothes, or backpacks. Hair coloring & style should not be distracting. No hanging belts/chains. No spikes on clothing, shoes, or accessories. PIERCINGS: No body piercings other than earlobes. No spikes. No large earrings. OUTERWEAR: Sweatshirts and jackets (with sleeves) only. No shirts covering uniform allowed. Violators will be required to change into office loaner(s), their P.E. clothes (inside out) or call home for appropriate clothing.
