ECHS DRESS CODE
Cleanliness, appropriate apparel and appropriate grooming of persons are expected as a matter of health and aesthetics. The dress of students must be in good taste, appropriate for school activities, in accordance with the school rules and not be disruptive to the learning environment. ECHS student dress code is based upon the Early County School System's policy and is designed to reduce the likelihood of distraction or disruption and to maintain an academic focus in the classroom and on campus. Administrators have the final authority in all judgments related to dress and hygiene.
The following items are acceptable: Clothing that is non-revealing in the chest area and midriff area. All tops must cover the skin above the pants at the waist line (whenever student is sitting, standing, bending, etc.) and must not fall below the wrist with arms at the side. Sleeveless tops and dresses with wide enough shoulder area to cover the majority of the female’s shoulder. No tank tops. Pants, shorts, and skirts that are belted or fitted must be worn properly at the waist. All males must have their shirts tucked in and have on a belt. Belt must be worn correctly All males’ pants must button and have a fly. Clothing free of holes that reveal skin or undergarments from the lower thigh to the shoulders and made of non-see thru material. Dress and skirt hemlines that touch the top of the kneecap when worn properly at the waist and when standing upright. Proper undergarments, that are not visible. Clothing or jewelry that is FREE OF obscene, vulgar, inflammatory, derogatory, or suggestive language, gestures, alcohol, drugs, or tobacco, illegal substances, or gangs including symbols, logos or trademarks. Coats that do not go past the rear pants pockets. Clean well-groomed hair in a style not disruptive to the learning environment. Well-groomed facial hair. Students will not be allowed to wear beards or goatees. Clothing must be appropriately sized including waist and length. No sagging. The following items are unacceptable and not allowed: Body piercing such as tongue or nose rings other than earrings for females. Clothing that is too tight or revealing. Plain white t-shirts designed to be worn as undershirts. Wallet chains and dog collars. Bedroom or lounging clothing or bedroom shoes. Hats and caps, bandanas, and head coverings or curlers. Athletic/sweat/wind suit pants. Rings that interlock or cover more than one finger are not allowed. Any distractions identified by school authorities. Non-orthodontic objects inside of mouth (Including "Grillz", straws, forks, tongue rings, etc.) Skates, skate shoes or skateboards. Males are not allowed to wear earrings. Sagging pants. Slides/Flip flops or bedroom shoes Tights, jogging suits, “jeggings,” or yoga pants Spandex or form fitting clothing Colored hair that is not a natural hair color such as blue, green, purple or bright red Jeans with rips, tears or frays Blankets, bed sheets or pillows Anything that the administration determines to be disruptive to the educational process Students with injuries may need accommodations to the dress code. These accommodations shall be considered for approval upon receipt of notification from a doctor prescribing the need. When attending school functions and extra-curricular activities, students should dress appropriately. If students are deemed inappropriately dressed, students will be asked to leave school activity or function.
