2016-2017 UNIFORM POLICY: “DRESS FOR SUCCESS AT PDCMS” A violation of dress code includes anything that distracts from the learning environment. The appropriateness of any questionable attire/appearance will be determined by Administration.
Label all school uniforms and materials so they may be returned to you if lost. PDCMS SCHOOL LANYARD/I.D.
A student’s picture I.D. must be visibly worn while on campus and during field trips. I.D. cards may not be altered in any way. Students must wear PDCMS issued lanyard.
TOPS Shirts:
Shirts must be purchased through Norman’s Uniforms and display the school logo. Uniform shirts are required for ALL PDCMS students. Choices include: golf (polo) style shirt, Hanes Beefy-T, and fitted round-neck t-shirt. The shirts are available in white, navy, gray, green and black (black t-shirts are for 8th grade students only). The shirt must be long enough so that the abdomen does not show when arms are raised above the head. Shirts may not be altered in any manner such as tying or twisting shirts to make them more form fitting. Visible undershirts are allowed as long as they are a plain SOLID uniform color. Example: a white long-sleeve t-shirt under a black polo shirt. PDCMS Club shirts may ONLY be worn on Fridays. Sweatshirts/Sweaters:
Only uniform sweatshirts and sweaters purchased from Norman’s Uniforms that display the school logo on the front are allowed on campus. Sweatshirts/sweaters are available in gray, black, navy blue, or white. All students may purchase and wear black logo sweatshirts.
Heavy Coats/Jackets:
During inclement weather, students may wear a heavy coat or heavy jacket made of wool, nylon or other material NOT used for sweatshirts/sweaters. These may NOT display graphics such as team names and do not need to be purchased at Norman’s Uniforms. Inclement weather coats and jackets noted above must be taken off during class so PDCMS logoed shirts or sweatshirts are visible. Light weight sports jackets are not allowed at school.
BOTTOMS Pants/Capris:
Students have a choice of solid-colored black, gray, khaki (tan), navy blue or solid blue denim (jeans) pants or capris. Pants/jeans must be in good repair; no holes or rips and may not be excessively embellished (i.e. no excessive stitching or decorations). No sweatpants or athletic wear may be worn outside of PE. Leggings, Jeggings, or Yoga Pants may not be worn as pants. Pants/jeans must stay up at waistline without a belt and may not be baggy. Pants/Jeans may not drag on the ground. Staples, tacks, rubber bands, and tape are not acceptable means of hemming. Underwear must NOT be showing
Bermuda-style shorts/skirts/skorts:
Shorts/skirts/skorts must knee length or longer when standing. They must be solid-colored black, navy blue, gray or khaki (tan). Athletic shorts or denim shorts of any color are not allowed.
SHOES
Safety is a primary concern. You may not wear slippers.
HAIR
Hair and hair color must be natural in appearance. (Example: one side of head may not be blonde and
the other side black.)
Shaved designs and/or patterns in hair are NOT allowed. Non-natural hair colors (i.e. bright red, orange, purple, blue, etc.), whether partial or full coverage, are NOT allowed at school. Spiked or Mohawk-style haircuts may be no more than 2” in length.
GENERAL INFORMATION
WRITING on oneself, one’s clothes, or other students is prohibited. NO BODY PIERCING other than ears. No spike earrings allowed. BANDANAS, HAIRNETS and SLEEPWEAR are not allowed at school. BACKPACKS and NOTEBOOKS may not be altered with inappropriate artwork or graphics. ACCESSORIES No vests (other than those sold by Norman’s Uniforms), scarves, ties, or suspenders are allowed at school. Gloves may only be worn outside during inclement weather and should be removed during class time. Jewelry and hair bands should not be distracting to the learning environment or unsafe and must be removed at teacher request. Manufactured belts are to be used to hold pants up (no scarves, rope, shoe strings, or excessively large buckles). When belts are worn they must go through belt loops. HATS, BEANIES or CAPS of any kind, HOODS, and SUNGLASSES may be worn in PE only. Caps must have the bill facing forward at all time. Hats and sunglasses are not to be visible outside of PE and will be confiscated immediately.
SPECIAL FREE-SHIRT DAYS
If a student qualifies for a free-shirt day (typically related to a fundraising event) he/she may ONLY wear shirts/blouses with sleeves. Tank tops, shirts/blouses with a low, scoop neckline, open/plunging slits or inappropriate graphics are NOT allowed. Non-uniform tops may not be revealing in anyway. Clothing and accessories may not have any sign of nor promote: graffiti, alcohol/drugs, racism, gang affiliation, tobacco, profanity, sexual connotations, or violence.
