AWM E-Communication October 2015 Big News! The Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) has been awarded an ADVANCE grant in the amount $750,000 from the National Science Foundation to support the project Career Advancement for Women Through Research-Focused Networks. The Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) is pleased to announce that Naomi Jochnowitz of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Rochester is the recipient of the 2016 Gweneth Humphreys Award. The award will be presented at the Joint Prize Session at the JMM in Seattle, WA in January 2016. The Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) is pleased to announce that Judy Walker, Aaron Douglas Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is the recipient of the 2016 Louise Hay Award. The award will be presented at the Joint Prize Session at the JMM in Seattle, WA in January 2016. AWM Individual and Institutional Memberships: The new membership year (October 1 – September 30) is upon us. If you haven’t already done so, please take a few minutes to renew your membership with the AWM. Thank you! Is your Department an Institutional Member of the AWM? If not, please introduce AWM to your department chair and urge the department to become a member. Institutional membership dues start as low as $200 per year. For this membership level, the department receives a free job link ad or a free newsletter ad. This is a great value because our ads reach a diverse audience of potential applicants. In addition, the department is able to give 15 students free memberships to the organization. The students will receive an electronic subscription to the AWM Newsletter as well as announcements about AWM's many programs, such as workshops for graduate students, an essay contest for undergraduates and secondary students, a biennial research symposium, mentoring programs and travel grants. It's a great way to make students aware of networking opportunities and for them to feel part of the mathematics community. Child care at National Meetings: Child Care Grants for JMM 2016. The AMS and the MAA will provide approximately 50 reimbursement grants of US$250 per family to help with the cost of child care for a number of registered participants at 2016 JMM. The funds may be used for child care that frees a parent to participate more fully in the JMM. Registration for the meeting as a participant is required to apply for this program. Applications will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis until November 18, 2014. Final decisions on recipients will be made on or before November 25, 2014.

Child Care Grants for SIAM Annual Meeting 2016. SIAM is offering up to $250 per family for attendees who bring children to the 2016 SIAM Annual Meeting in Boston, MA , in July 2016. Information about how to apply will be posted in January 2016.
