Taiwan Education Center U.S.A. About Taiwan Education Center U.S.A. (TECUS) is a project under subvention from the Ministry of Education and the general direction of the Foundation of International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan (FICHET). Established in 2012 in Michigan, our goal is to promote cultural exchange activities and educational cooperation between the U.S. and Taiwan and coordinate various kinds of exchange programs and connect schools’ activities in these two countries. Our local office is set up in Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan. We welcome your visit and provide free consulting about any study information in Taiwan. Overview 2009: TECUS reached a general, black-and-white agreement with Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) for establishing a TECUS office and a strategy for promoting the use of traditional Chinese characters in Michigan. 2012: 1. TECUS received permission from the Ministry of Education in Taiwan and also successfully finished all the nongovernmental/ people’s organization (NGO/PO) registration procedures in Michigan. TECUS was officially established in 2012 in Michigan. 2. TECUS held the first “Taiwan education fair US” in Los Angeles. Mission Goals The main mission of TECUS is to develop the functions of TECUS and reinforce the embedded soft power influences of non-official organizations; therefore, our goal is to promote Taiwan’s higher education in various aspects, such as enhancing popularity of traditional Chinese characters, increasing cultural exchange activities among schools and educational cooperation between the U.S. and Taiwan. TECUS coordinates various kinds of exchange programs and connects schools’ activities annually, and the final goal is letting American students experience the good quality of Taiwan’s higher education and expanding the number of American students in Taiwan.
「2015 Taiwan Education Fair」 Taiwan and Texas Higher Education Forum Statistics from the Ministry of Education show that more than 92,000 overseas students from around the world are currently in Taiwan studying in degree programs, on exchange programs, taking Mandarin studies courses, or on short-term programs, etc. Among them, 3,278 students are from the U.S., making them the 9th most represented group following Malaysia, Japan, HK, Macau, Vietnam, South Korea and Indonesia. To increase the number of international students and promote the high quality education of Taiwan, the Ministry of Education has assigned 7 universities to establish Taiwan Education Centers in India, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Korea, Mongolia, Japan and the U.S. Ming Chuan University is responsible for the Taiwan Education Center in the U.S., and in August 2012 it successfully registered the center as a nongovernmental/ people’s organization (NGO/PO) in Michigan. The first Taiwanese education fair in the U.S. was held in El Monte, California, in 2012. About a thousand people attended, attracted by advertisements in local Chinese language radio and television stations. In 2015, Taiwan Education Center U.S. is hosting the 4th Taiwan Education Fair in Houston. The Ministry of Education is bringing Taiwanese education officials and top universities to Houston, including (by alphabetical order): China Medical University, Chung Shan Medical University, Kaohsiung Medical University, Ming Chuan University, National Cheng Kung University, National Chiao Tung University, National Dong Hwa University, National Taiwan University, Shih Chien University, Shu-Te University, and Taipei Medical University. In addition to the education fair, the Taiwan and Texas Higher Education Forum is taking place at the University of Houston-Downtown. Representatives from both Taiwanese universities and U.S. universities are invited to attend the forum to share their thoughts and ideas related to international exchanges and collaborations, short-term programs, and the topic of student mobility in the hopes of deepening the collaboration and exchange of faculty, staff and students between Taiwan and Texas.
