West Papua and Australia’s involvement; and Introduction to the Free West Papua Party.

West Papua and Australia’s Involvement: Thanks: Thanks to all who have organised this great night has been put together by passionate and creative volunteers in their spare time with a heart for West Papua. Chant: When West Papuans rally they love to shout out “Freedom!” So for the rest of this vigil we are all going to be like West Papuans. So when I shout “West Papua!” you reply by shouting “Freedom!” And when I shout “Freedom!” you reply by shouting “West Papua!” Let’s give it a go… “West Papua!”… “Freedom!” “Freedom!”… “West Papua!”

Red Pill or the Bill Pill: Who remembers the science fiction film “The Matrix”? The Matrix has a scene where Morpheus offers Neo a blue pill and a red pill and asks Neo to choose which pill he would like to take. Tonight I offer you one of two pills. You can have the blue pill which represents blissful ignorance of the West Papua situation (like Cypher). Or you can have the red pill which represents knowing the painful truth of the West Papuan situation and Australia’s involvement (like Neo). Tonight I ask you, “Do you want to take the Blue Pill of “Blissful Ignorance” or do you want to take the Red Pill and know the “Painful Truth?” Are you ready to hear the painful truth? The Genocide: Less than 200km north of Australia is the island of New Guinea. That is the island that is shaped like a cendrawasih bird The western half of the island of New Guinea is known as West Papua (aka Irian Jaya). Since the 1960s the Australian government, along with the US government, has created and is sustaining the West Papuan creeping genocide!i

This creeping genocide has now killed more than 500,000ii West Papuans over 50 years and the Australian government has no intention of stopping it or letting you know about!iii The Australian Government hides the West Papua genocide behind what it calls its National Security Strategyiv. This National Security Strategy appears to have little to do with national security and lots to do with increasing and sustaining the riches of powerful greedy people. The only thing wrong that the West Papuans have done is that they happen to be living on top of the biggest gold mine in the world! West Papua is full of riches and powerful greedy people want those riches! They want West Papuan gold so much that they are willing to kill 500,000 West Papuans to get it. The Indonesian Military regime is a beast sustained by the Australian and US Governments so that big business can rape and plunder West Papua.v This candlelight vigil is a time of remembrance for the 500,000 West Papuans genocided. We are here tonight with a burning in our hearts that we want West Papua to be free! We want the genocide to stop! But also I see these candles as a symbol of our hearts burning to free West Papua. 90% of informed Australians support a Free West Papua and events like this vigil give us an opportunity to unite and spread the awareness of the West Papua situation. Advance Australia Fair Our Australian National Anthem captures our Australian values but it also serves as a measuring stick for how we can measure ourselves. Please let me read parts of our national anthem to you. Australians all let us rejoice, For we are young and free; Our anthem sings about Freedom. We may be free but our neighbour West Papua is not free! Our government has put West Papua under Indonesian military control and sustains their killers. Furthermore, I ask you - are we Australian’s really free? The same Australia Government that sustains the West Papuan genocide denies that genocide is taking place and does what it can to keep us in the dark. For 50 years the Australian government has kept us in the dark concerning the genocide. You and I are under the same regime as West Papua. By freeing West Papua we also help to free ourselves! We all want Australia to advance and we also want Australia to advance fairly. Right now the Australian Government is struggling to advance because it too busy sustaining West Papua’s killers. For Australia to advance further it must first free West Papua! We Australian’s are better than the evil that our government is doing to West Papua! Introduction to the Free West Papua Party: We need to pursue the freedom of West Papua in every peaceful way possible! But when it comes to changing Australia’s National Security Strategy we have few political options as both the Labor Party and the Coalition give bipartisan support to the National Security Strategy!vi The National Security Strategy has become a beast that both the major parties bow down to! For 50 years people, like you and I, have been lobbying the Australian Government to free West Papua. It is estimated that for every day that has passed since 1962 when the Australian government first helped the Indonesian military invade West Papua somebody has asked the Australian Government to intervene. But up until now the Australia Government has played dumb and has stonewalled us all. 90% of informed Australians support a Free West Papua. It’s just that the 10% that don’t are running our country. For this reason we have decided to launch the Free West Papua political Party. This is exciting news! And we hope it is going to be the game changer that we need in Australia to free West Papua! The sole objective of the Free West Papua Party is to activate Australia to support the freedom of West Papua. Please consider this: 1 Membership = 1 West Papuan’s Life Right now we’re running our membership drive for our first 500 members so that we can register with the AEC. Membership costs only $1 and by becoming a member you can help stop this genocide and saves lives! We will campaign in the next federal election and if successful we will be able to steer Australia to free West Papua. A great ocean liner can be steered by a small rudder and the Free West Papua Party will be that rudder within the Australian Government.
