Heading north from Brisbane along the Pacific Coast Highway (the shiny shoes highway) there are quite a number of State Forests and National Parks where you can stop for a cuppa. The Beerburrum SF; Beewah SF; Bribie Is. National Park. Just after you take a righty (R turn) to Sippy Downs the highway divides and - then your choice. The Sunshine Highway will take you past the Mooloolaba River National Park. If you take a lefty (L turn) onto the Bruce Highway you may meet some of your mates travelling south from Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Toowoomba - they are coming from everywhere. In 1983, after attending numerous caller's schools with Al Brundage and Earl Johnston from 1975 to 1982. Ken lives in USA and travels world wide conducting caller schools and calling at festivals and conventions. Welcome to Queesland Australia Ken. Paul Bristow. Paul started dancing in 1975. In 1976 he picked up a microphone and set myself on a course from which there was to be no escape. He regularly calls for clubs in the UK and overseas. We welcome Paul to Queensland, Australia. Randy and Marie Preskitt Randy and Marie Preskitt are based in Florida, USA. They have been foremost in Round Dancing for many years and have choreographed many popular Round Dances. A SONG, A STORY, AN AUSTRALIAN ICON - WALTZING MATILDA It can be a feel-good song, a rousing chorus or simply impart a feeling of nostalgia. It’s sung at sporting events, in schools and by expatriates all over the world. If there is one song that lives in the hearts of all Australians, it’s Waltzing Matilda Written back in 1895 by A.B. ‘Banjo’ Paterson, the song has played a significant part in defining the Australian character. Waltzing Matilda inspires the Aussie spirit. A.B. ‘Banjo’ Paterson 1864-1941. Do you know what the A.B. stand for? Of course you do, but I will tell you anyway ... Andrew Barton. He was born in Orange in the central west of NSW and lived most of his life in Sydney. He worked as a lawyer, journalist and editor. Fascinated by country life and especially by horses and horsemanship, he became a keen rider and played competitive polo. ’The Banjo’ was the pen name that he used for his early poems in The Bulletin. This name was copied from a racehorse owned by his father. Banjo also wrote stories; quite sure he had some good yarns to spin, and worked as a war correspondent during the Boer War in South Africa. In particular during his war assignment he had quite an involvement with ’Bill the Bastard’ Australia’s greatest war horse. Many of Banjo’s 162 poems gave mention in some way to horses, mountains, rivers, stockmen and woman and the Australian way of life. Below an excerpt of just one of the 162 poems written ... Today we keep Canaries as loving feathered pets. FUNNY STORY Man takes his unwell ‘feathered pet’ to the Vet. Prognosis - Canary has an ST disease called ‘twirpees’, it’s a ‘canarial’ disease but it is, wait for it .... It’s ‘TWEETABLE’ !!!

Got time for a yarn? Good ‘cos I was going to tell you anyway. I’m probably talking to the ‘converted’ however for those who don’t know there is an Aussie company bottling wine called ‘GREY NOMAD’ It’s not a bad little drop of McLarenVale produced wine and the blurb on the back reads .. The land Down Under has provided the ideal habitat for the recently discovered species of Homo Sapien - the ‘Grey Nomad’ . First emerging in the sixties around beach areas, travelling and residing in strange-shaped boxes on wheels, they have since evolved to favour much larger and luxurious contraptions. Rarely sighted in cities, the ‘Grey Nomad’ migrates north during the winter, where they frequent isolated coastal regions, the Top End and are spotted in the Red Centre. Not all with grey fur, known to be very friendly, tranquil and inquisitive; they are extremely approachable if offered wine. Their offspring are often heard to utter; ‘have you seen our parents’ and ‘don’t spend our inheritance’. This social mammal likes to congregate around waterholes to interact with other ‘Grey Nomads’ from different habitats. Gotta love us Aussies and Australia. We are UNIQUE!
