WORDS OF WISDOM FROM “B” KEEPERs,

CHAPTER DIRECTORs JERRY & Ruth BROWN

Assistant chapter Directors Bob & Lora Morrison

Greetings;

Hello everyone!

We would like to thank everyone for tolerating the mix up at our gathering place the last meeting. Things worked out, just had to turn up our hearing aids.

The beginning of each new year allows us a chance to make new resolutions and in a way—begin again. We think of the first of the year as a time to make changes. Well, I don’t know about you, but every time I make a resolution I break it before the end of January. So what’s the point? I don’t have one except to say I haven’t made any this year. Instead I have made a plan. We shall see if I get any further with that!

I hope everyone took time to welcome our newest members, Eugene and Mary Ballew. We, as a chapter, must be doing something right, because we keep recruiting member. Keep up the good work! Cold, cold, cold! Will it ever be warm again? We are ready for the eighties. Hopefully, riding time will be here soon. Maybe, Punxsutawney Phil will help us out next month. Don’t forget our Super Bowl party coming up February 2nd at the Morrison’s. Also, the Winter Rendezvous February 14-15. This would be a great Valentine weekend getaway! Hope to see everyone there. Please help me Congratulate our newest Couple of the Year, Mark and Joan Mullineaux. We know they will represent our chapter well. Ron and Tad have also been sworn in as our newest Treasures. Thank you! Remember to check our blog chapterb.com for all upcoming rides and events. We will soon be able to keep our knees in the breeze!

Your CDs,

Ruthie and Jerry

We were both able to make the New Year’s Day Ride. It was cool, but not too bad. We kept the ride short and of course ate at Cracker Barrel. The theme of this year’s Winter Rendezvous is “Favorite Holiday” so we went Red, White & Blue. No, it’s not the Fourth of July. That’s what we first intended, but as we discussed costumes and such it became Veteran’s Day. The men are wearing camo and the ladies are dressing in military associated outfits. You can still come with us. It’s going to be a wonderful weekend and a fun way to spend Valentine’s Day as well. The centerpiece for the Chapter B table is done and turned out pretty good. Maybe we have a chance to win a few awards! We are looking forward to warmer weather and fun rides. Join us at the gathering on February 9th. Be safe!

Bob and Lora

WORDS OF WISDOM MECs

Mark & Joan Mullineaux SUNRISE 2014 Those who know me know that sunrise is not my favorite time of the day. Not that I have anything against it, but it is not something I have a real relationship with. Metaphorically speaking though it is a time of great promise, as we watch the leading rays of sunlight brighten the dark morning sky. This is the time of the year where the glimmer of activities allude to much brighter things to come in the year ahead. Rides and events are lain out in front of us, and it is up to us to pick and choose those we will participate in. I am really excited by the prospects of the coming year. I want to do it all. I am also excited by the growth of our chapter. Joan and I have visited many chapters both large and small. We have found that the chapters we think most fondly of tend to be large chapters, but the size of the chapter does not matter as much as the level of involvement of the members in that chapter. Chapters are what you put into them. CD’s are great! I have the utmost respect for someone willing to stand up in front of the group and try to hold things together. The work and the issues they deal with are not visible to the membership at- large. From the membership’s point of view, I have seen chapters where everyone gathers in a large room and after a meal, the CD stands up and reads from his carefully prepared notes to outline his vision of where the chapter should be going. I

have also seen chapters where the CD stands up but he is more of a ring leader for all of the ideas presented by the membership. Some of the presentations are informative and educational. Some are pretty off of the wall, even zany. There have even been monthly awarding of prizes that run the gamut from serious, too far from serious. (Ex: “biggest whiner”). What I want to say is that the chapter is what you put into it. The CD has his core officers for his support but there are no limits to the posts that can be assigned. Some possible ideas are Secretary, Welcome Committee, Activity Coordinator, Ride Coordinator, Phone Tree Coordinator, Technical Coordinator, Special Events Coordinator, Funshine person, Recognition and Special Awards Coordinator, Fund Raising, Coordinator, and Chapter Historian. The chapter is what we make it and with member involvement we can make it something special.

Ride Coordinators Ron & Tad Bohnert It is still a little too cold to be out ridding, along with too much snow. So it would be a good time to think about where would be a good place to ride when it does warm up. If you come up with an idea let me know. There are still lots of days open for a ride. Saturday is not the only day made for riding. Check out our web page for upcoming rides this year so you can join in on as many rides as you can. Tad and I would also like to say “Thank You” for all those that help make our Christmas Party fun by bringing the auction items and cookies.

Health Update

Greg is looking well even with his 35 pound weight loss, Jim says. “You wouldn’t know he was sick to look at him.” Jim adds that Greg is weak and needs to rest often. But overall Greg is doing better than expected and we are all very happy to hear that. Keep going Greg! We are all here for you! Hope to see you and Mary Ellen soon!

The biker bucks you currently have, and the ones you will earn in 2014 will be very valuable at the 2014 Christmas Party Auction. Beginning January 2015, however, you will see a change in the currency--different color, appearance, something to make them stand apart. The Biker Bucks we have been using will be void after the 2014 party. Why, you may ask? Well, it is believed that many new members and guests may be discouraged from participate in our monthly Biker Bucks activities and in our party and auction at year’s end because they have not been with us long enough to have earned many Biker Bucks. Since many have been saving their bucks from years past, this puts our newbies at an ever bigger disadvantage. This is just a friendly way to even the playing field. So make sure you find all the current Biker Bucks and have them ready for this December. Use them or lose them!

Chapter shirt orders Tad will be collecting order forms and money for Chapter shirts at February’s gathering. She must have all orders pre-paid at that time. Remember that you may personalize your shirts if you choose. Please fill out a separate order form for each person. Also make sure to add the small additional charge for the personalization per item. PRINT CLEARLY! If you have any questions, please contact Tad Bohnert.

Joan & Mark Mullineaux We were surprised and honored to be named IN-B’s 2014 Couple of the Year. We look forward to representing the Chapter at District events and hope to visit other Indiana Chapters this year. We plan to learn everything we can about the District Couple of the Year competition and go through it for the fun and experience and also to be able to help guide next year’s couple in the process if they choose to “go for it.” Our first official outing will be at Winter Rendezvous. We can’t wait to meet the other 2014 Couples of the Year. Mark and Joan Mullineaux

Both Tad and Ron have contributed to the Chapter in many positions over the years. Currently, Ron acts as chapter ride coordinator and maintains the blog. Tad takes care of organizing major chapter events such as the progressive dinner and Christmas party. She also handles Chapter shirt orders and is the one to see for chapter bars and patches. Please congratulate both on their new titles!
