Independent School District of Boise City Physical Education Scope and Sequence K–6 The intended use for the scope and sequence in the Boise School District is to provide a resource and reference for the learning objectives and outcomes for elementary physical education. The implementation of this framework provides for the best possible learning experience and allows students to improve motor and manipulative skill development, demonstrate cognitive knowledge of a variety of activities, learn and practice physical fitness concepts and enjoy being active in a positive environment. The Boise School District requires that all students, Kindergarten through sixth grade, receive instruction in each of the eight physical education Performance Objectives. Each student will be assessed quarterly for Performance Objective #1, and once each year for Performance Objectives #2 through #8. Each Performance Objective is summarized as follows: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
Participates in class Locomotor skills and chasing, fleeing and dodging Dribbles and/or applies defensive strategies Throwing and catching Strikes and/or volleys Static balances and/or educational gymnastics skills and sequences 7. Rhythmic skills (dance, jump rope) 8. Fitness principles The scope and sequence of the Boise School District is intended to be the starting point for planning and implementation. The recommended activities that accompany each performance objective are a guide to encourage appropriate planning at each developmental and ability level. Included with each performance objective are references to the Boise School District adopted texts and supplemental materials. The scope and sequence of the Boise School District, particularly Performance Objectives 1-8, are aligned with NASPE and Idaho Achievement Standards and are therefore established as the minimum criteria. The expectation to teach the Performance Objectives thoroughly in creative, organized and well thought out units of instruction is expected. It is recommended that each unit be implemented a minimum of two weeks, allowing for acquisition of new skill, refinement of skill and the application of skills in a small-sided game-like setting. Summative assessments will be provided to parents/guardians one time each quarter in the form of a report card.
Included within the scope and sequence are additional units of instruction that are used to enhance the physical education curriculum and the learning opportunities of all students. These units are summarized as follows: Skills related to hockey Skills related to golf Bowling Traversing wall/Rock climbing Skills related to Lacrosse Track and Field Skills related to softball Skills related to football Included within the Boise School District’s K-6 physical education support material, you will find: Idaho Achievement Standards for grades K-6 Scope and Sequence Sample Year Plan Assessment Rubric
