WELCOME Tonight we celebrate rugby...and in particular, the efforts and achievements of our Junior Rugby Teams from 2006-to today. In this period, our J4’s won the J4 League in 2009, our J4s and J5s won their respective Leagues in 2011 and in 2012, our J5’s won the O’Connor Cup. Whereas Junior Rugby in our Club has always provided special memories, we do not always take the time to remember and celebrate them. Tonight we do both! Our J4 Team Captains during this period were Alan Kibble, Paul Moran, Brian (Teddy) Moran, J4's celebrate victory in the Winters Cup Final 2009 Ross Wynne, Philip Conway, Darragh O’Neill, Stephen Muldowney, David Browne, David Balfour and Michael Daley. Maurice (Mossy) Davin, Anthony O’Hanlon, Eamonn Walsh, Gareth Lloyd, David Browne, Owen Clery, David Millard and Gary Masterson were our Team Captains for the J5s. Eamon Moran, Tim Henderson, Colin Burkley, Ross Church and Mick Flats were the Coaches for the J4s and Ian Murray, Andy Fitzpatrick, Richard Andreucetti, Ian McCarthy, Bobby O’Connor, Ian Kelly, Adrian Malone, David Daly, Jody Brooks, Colin Burkley, Ross Church, Mick Flats, Owen Clery, Stephen Teggart and Colm Kavanagh all coached the J5’s during this time also. Players and coaches were ably supported during this time by the Team Managers Gavin Rafferty, Ian Grimson, Mossy Davin, Colin Burkley and Stephen Boden. With assistant managers Alan Kibble, Stephen Walkin, Ronan Foley, Lorcan Byrne, Vinny Murray and Karl Kelly. Strength and Conditioning coach Rachel Doolin. We estimate that over 250 players played for these teams during these years coming from at least 10 Countries across the rugby playing world. Who could forget our Serbian player of the Year (Uros)?? Or even our boys from Brazil?! (Rodrigo and Guillerme) Many players came to us with little or no rugby experience either answering an innate desire to play the game or in response to some of the recruitment posters strategically placed around the City. That didn’t stop these players from togging out, getting Members of the current J4/J5 squad on a team Christmas stuck in and playing to the best of their ability. These J4 and J5 Teams hold a unique place in night out in the Guinness Brewery, December 2016 the heart of St Marys College RFC because of the special, full and wholehearted contribution made by these players to the life and culture of the Rugby Club both on and off the pitch. Not all players or teams won silverware during this period yet each and every player remembers their special time playing with St Marys College RFC. Coach, Manager, Player and the unique heart beat of the J4s and J5s for over 10 years now, Mossy Davin take a bow! (Has anyone contributed more to J4 and J5 Rugby over the last 10 years than Mossy Davin?!) Tonight is about hazy memories and exaggerated stories. REUNION DAY It is with great pleasure that we host this J4/J5 Junior Rugby Reunion in Templeville Road today, Saturday 18th February 2017. 2017 marks the 5th anniversary of the 2012 O’Connor Cup winning J5 team (the famous 110 minute game!!), the 6th anniversary of the 2011 J4 League Section A Premier Division League winning J4 team, the 6th anniversary of the 2011 J5 League winning J5 team and the 8th anniversary of the 2009 Winter’s Cup winning J4 team (the game with the famous last minute try saving tackle by Chi Yuen!!). Victorious J5 League winners 2011 The journey for this current generation of with Club President Ronnie McBrien J4/J5’s began back in season 2006/2007. Almost 10 years ago!! As well as those successes, there have been some hard defeats along the way. Defeats made all the sweeter by the trophy success a few years later.

2011 was a big season for Junior Rugby in the Clubs. All teams from J1 to J5 went unbeaten in all leagues right up to Christmas 2010. A feat that has never been achieved to date, but no doubt will be over the next couple seasons. There were a few memorable trips along the way. Grimmers cup winning trips to Berlin in 2007 and 2008. Cologne 2008, Galway 2009, Berlin 2009 and Toulouse 2010. More recently the J5’s have won the D.P. Smyth Blitz for the last two seasons in a row. Finally after all the years of losing out in the final!!! Today the current teams, (featuring a few stalwarts who have soldiered since 2006/2007!!), have two home league games. In Metro League Division 6 the J4’s play MU Barnhall and in Metro League Division 11 the J5’s play Clontarf.

CURRENT SEASON CURRENT SEASON This year’s J4/5s are a great bunch of players, who are still willing to learn new things, and listen, even though they think they know it all. The management were eager to keep things going after a rewarding season last year. New coaches Owen Clery and Stephen Teggart were appointed, and have been a great asset to the squad with their knowledge and passion. New management of Colm Kavanagh, Karl Kelly and Vinnie Murray were brought on board, as well as the old guard of Mossy Davin, Colin Burkley and Stephen Boden. New captains in the shape of Michael Daly and Gary Masterson, who had to fill the big boots left by Balf and Binner. We had a dream team doing all the background work so that all the players have to do is turn up and play. We had a fantastic pre season trip to Bruges, as well documented. The togetherness formed on that trip will bond the players going forward. Players got to know each other a little better and tours are important for that reason alone. The J4s are now currently 2nd in the Metro Division 6 with everything to play for. They have Old Belvedere in the 2nd round of the Winters Cup. The J5s are now currently 3rd in Division 11 with games against the top 2, Stillorgan and Clontarf yet to come. Unfortunately, they were knocked out of the Guilfoyle Cup by MU Barnhall. We also have an end of season trip to South Wales to look forward to at the end of April. Mick Flats Head Coach J4/J5
