FROM THE PASTOR Happy New Year greetings to all! Very often as we ponder resolutions to live in a new year, we are reminded to also have gratitude for the blessings we have received in the previous year or even those that go unrecognized in our life. I know I’m working on that. A blessing that is easy to see is our parish. I would like to thank all of you for making St. Athanasius Parish the active community that new people are attracted to every week. In fact, we had almost a hundred more people come to Christmas Mass this year than last! On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone who provided some support to myself, Fr. Patrick and the rest of the staff through cards or gifts or a kind word of encouragement. It is greatly appreciated and very helpful! Also, we have a new staff member to welcome and, in gratitude, someone to say farewell to along with our best wishes. Our office manager, Nancy Sieger, is moving on to, hopefully, more relaxing days. I would like to thank her for her unwavering dedication, loyalty, and skill. Many of you don’t know that Nancy commuted everyday from Norwood to keep us steady for the last few years. She will be personally and professionally missed by the whole staff and parish. On that note, I would like to welcome Kerry Laurenza as our new office manager. Kerry comes with great experience and has already been working in the office part time, so she is familiar with the operations of the parish. It is with the hope that comes with new things that I pray that all of you have a blessed and fruitful New Year!

Become a Hospice Volunteer
Part Time Substitute Teacher Needed
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” -Mahatma Gandhi All Care Hospice is currently seeking caring, compassionate people to offer comfort and support to our patients and families. As part of the care team, volunteers serve a vital role in affecting the quality of our patients’ lives. Each volunteer opportunity is unique and varies depending on the needs of the patient and family as well as the volunteer’s availability and interests. Patient care may include providing companionship through conversation, reading aloud, reminiscing, or even just holding their hand. Other duties help alleviate stress for the caregiver such as running errands like grocery shopping and trips to the pharmacy, light housekeeping or meal preparation. Administrative tasks involve assembling admission packets, assisting with mailings, photocopying, and special event preparation. All Care Hospice serves the North Shore, Merrimack Valley and Greater Boston. For more information or to enroll in a training, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Maureen Burge at 781-244-1129
