JD298 DTA II – Network Assistant to the District Data Center Manager Job Description Purpose:

The DTA II – Network Assistant to the District Data Center Manager provides on demand assistance and support for district users to ensure that network systems are providing efficient and reliable connectivity across the district on approved devices.

Qualifications: 1. College degree (Associates minimum) in related technology field or successful

completion of approved networking certification course. 2. Minimum of three years experience in a DTA I level position in the district or similar experience outside the district. 3. Minimum of three years proven experience supporting enterprise networking. 4. One or more years of hardware service and repair experience. Essential Functions: 1.

Assist district users with common network connectivity issues in an ondemand capacity. Diagnose reported problems and fix when possible or escalate when necessary. Assist the District Data Center Manager and other members of the technology department with problems relating to daily or routine network or device usage. Provide DTA II – Network Assistant and the District Data Center Manager personnel with input regarding more complex network problems. Alert department staff of developing issues and formulate potential fixes. Be able to articulate and manage issues related to network and/or systems problems.

Analyze network problems from all sources and implement fixes in coordination with the District Data Center Manager. Evaluate, recommend and implement network software and hardware, and assist in the development of strategies to more effectively provide connectivity to district users and devices. Install and configure network equipment as directed by the District Data Center Manager. Install, test and certify network wiring as directed by the District Data Center Manager. Provide Tier II support to DTA I personnel. Act as lead technician and point of contact for projects assigned by the District Data Center Manager including reporting on progress, status and issues. Must have the ability to find answers to complex technology issues. Must have the ability to work independently with little or no supervision. Must have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Must have the ability to work as a member of a diverse team. Must have the ability to learn complex systems quickly and effectively. Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods. Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend, reach and lift. Occasionally requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials. Must be able to work in stressful and hectic environment. Requires the ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions. Requires the ability to travel. May require the ability to adjust work schedule to complete tasks and/or work overtime. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

General Responsibilities: 1. Execute deployment of technology projects as directed. 2. Provide district users with guidance in resolving technology issues by providing

information or referring them to the appropriate personnel. 3. Reinforce safety at district locations by observing placement of cabling and other

technology equipment. 4. Utilize support management software as appropriate to assigned tasks. 5. Support network functions on all district approved devices.

6. Evaluate symptoms of malfunctions for possible causes. 7. Advise network users of alternative approaches if operator error is determined to

be the cause. 8. Resolve problems by taking appropriate actions relative to the specific problem. 9. Perform basic, minor repairs or installations at site. 10. Document processes undertaken to resolve problems in appropriate ticketing system. 11. Read and understand technical instructions pertaining to equipment/software to be installed. Install components according to instructions. 12. Assemble necessary components to complete tasks assigned. 13. Prepare systems for installation and attachment to LAN/WAN. 14. Coordinate with District Data Center Manager to facilitate timely repairs and installation. 15. Advise district users of the necessary changes in operations due to new installations. Provide support as necessary. 16. Determine causes of network malfunctions through evaluation and testing and resolve when possible or escalate as necessary 17. Modify systems parameters as necessary to resolve problems and document the solution. 18. Advise the District Data Center Manager if maintenance service is necessary. 19. Adhere to all district health and safety policies. 20. Other duties as assigned by the District Technology Coordinator, which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position.
