n Wednesday, July 5, 2017, the staff and student volunteers of the Unilag Community defied the heavy rain to embark on a campus-wide campaign against the troubling trio of suicide, depression, and drug abuse. Organised by the Counselling Unit, in conjunction with the Suicide Research and Prevention Initiative, LUTH, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and Faculty Executives, the campaign train visited students in their faculties and halls of residence, sharing the “Stay Alive” message. The volunteers later converged at the Afe Babalola Hall and there, the Dean of Student Affairs Division, Prof. Ademola Adeleke, moderated an interactive session with student leaders and other volunteers. He charged them to be openminded and always be willing to approach the Counselling Unit to discuss issues that are of concern to them. He urged them never to resort to the lure of drug abuse, which could make them victims of depression and suicide. He assured them of Management's resolve to make life and study in the University of Lagos rounded and convenient. The Director of Quality Assurance/SERVICOM, Prof. L.O Chukwu also took the opportunity to address student leaders. He reminded of the existence of the SERVICOM and its readiness to ensure that the quality of training received by students of the University of Lagos is top notch and never compromised.
