Dear Parents, Welcome back! Ms. Hozeny, the faculty, and I are excited about beginning another school year with your children. Last year, the parents and faculty did a great job getting the morning car line to run incredibly smoothly. My goal is to make that car line run just as smoothly from the first day of school. I have some updates and reminders to help us get traffic off to a great start: The Main Parking Lot and Driveway 1.Remember that there is no left turn into the main parking lot and driveway from 8:15 to 8:45 am and 2:45 to 3:45 pm. I had the “No Left Turn” placard moved underneath the sign on the right side of the street which I believe will cause less confusion. 2. The main parking lot and driveway are one way only. I had arrows painted indicating the direction. 3. Remember that the front door opens at 8:15 am for students to enter the building. My suggestion is to arrive between 8:15 and 8:30 am. Car traffic builds after 8:30 am. 4. When using the car line, pull as far down as possible along the front of the building. I had the white drop-off line repainted this summer. Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Immerman, and I will be outside daily to wave cars as far down as possible. Pulling all the way down is the biggest single action that help us reduce traffic back-up during arrival so the more people do this, the better. 5. Make sure your children can exit your car on the passenger side only. Please, make sure they are ready to exit as soon as the car comes to a stop. 6. Please, refrain from turning around in the recreation center parking lot and getting into the middle of the car line when it’s extended that far. Instead approach Hansom Road from Liberty Ridge Road so you are already heading in the right direction.
7. For morning and afternoon pick-up, please do not double park your car in front of parked cars in the parking lot. 8. If you are parking on Hansom Road to walk your children to the door, please park on the north side only between the main parking lot entrance and exit. Please, refrain from dropping students off here. Use the car line only if dropping off students. 9. Always use the painted crosswalk when crossing the main driveway to enter the school’s main entrance. 10. Please, do not park in handicapped spots to pick up children without a handicapped placard and if children are walking to your car. If they are walking to your car, please use the car line. The Allen Road Parking Lot and Driveway 1.This driveway is reserved for buses and a small number of parents dropping off students directly to staff members. The vast majority of parents and students must use the main entrance. 2. Parents assigned to park in the Allen Road parking lot to drop off or pick up students will be assigned a parking hangtag to display when parking in this lot. 3. Always use the painted crosswalk when crossing the Allen Road driveway to drop off or pick up students. The Tiny Turtle Parking Lot 1. A number of parents park at the Highlands Village Center shopping plaza and walk their children to the Mount Prospect main entrance. We are working to maintain a good relationship with Tiny Turtle Preschool. Please, refrain from parking in the lot directly front of and on the side ofTiny Turtle Preschool if using the Hillside Shopping Plaza for drop off or pick up. Dismissal at the Main Entrance 1. If you are walking up to the main entrance to pick up your children at the end of the school day, please keep the rectangle (outlined with a broken yellow painted line) in front of the main entrance doors clear so that teachers can walk out with their students easily. Have your children walk over to you. Tell them where to look for you. 2. When using the car line during dismissal, pull as far down to the Kindergarten end of the building as possible or directed along the white line. Tell your children to look for you anywhere along the white line. Working together, we can keep our children safe getting into and out of school from the first day. Thank you for partnering with us on this important endeavor. Sincerely, Mr. Ciempola
