LYA Youth Basketball Leagues Dear Parents, We are very excited to be starting the 2017-2018 LYA house league basketball season! After today’s clinic, coaches will meet to create the teams for each league. You will receive communication from your coach in the coming week, and will begin practicing right away. Games are currently scheduled to start the week of November 27th with one game each night at 6pm and another at 7:15pm. The weekly game schedule is outlined below. Practice days/times will vary depending on your team. ● ● ● ●
Monday - 3rd through 5th grade girls Tuesday - 6th through 8th grade boys Wednesday - 6th through 8th grade girls Thursday - 3rd through 5th grade boys
Through participating in this league we hope that your child will benefit in many ways including, but not limited to, the following list. ● ●
●
Become a better basketball player and pick up skills they can use as they continue to grow as players. Learn how to compete and play to win, but understand the importance of good sportsmanship and respect for the game regardless of the outcome. Build character and learn about teamwork, cooperation, communication, confidence, leadership, responsibility, being coachable, and all the other life lessons kids can learn through competing in sports.
We ask for your support in teaching these values. Some of the ways you can do this are by keeping these things in mind when you’re talking to your child about their experiences in games and practice, showing respect for coaches and games officials (who are volunteering their time to provide this experience for your kids) when you attend games, and cheering positively for your child’s team regardless of the score or situation in the game. On the back side of this letter you will find the LYA’s Athletic Code of Conduct for your reference. By signing your child up to play in this league, you are agreeing to adhere to and respect the code of conduct. The coordinator for the boy’s leagues is Dan Korte (l
