Dear Parents/Carers RE: Parking I am writing to alert you to a number of issues concerning parking of cars within the academy and in the local community. We are concerned that the safety of pupils, staff and visitors is being endangered and we would appreciate your co-operation in ensuring all our community is kept safe. ON SITE PARKING Firstly, there have been a few complaints and near-misses in connection with the number of cars that are coming on to site at the beginning and the end of the school and nursery day. There are a number of vehicles that have to bring children on the site due to mobility issues and these parents still have permission to do so. For those parents, we are now going to introduce a “pass” system to park on the school site at these times. Parents of children with mobility issues need to collect a pass from the school or nursery reception. The premises duty officer will then be checking for car park passes at the gate in the mornings and afternoons. If you do not have a pass, you will be asked to turn around and park in the local community. Please ensure that any cars that are parked on the school site are parked safely and do not obstruct any vehicles. Even for those parents who have passes, we would ask you to park in a designated parking space and if one is not available, to wait for one to come free. This is to ensure that the children who are catching taxis at these times are safe walking across the car park. We have also had several staff cars damaged over the last few months with no details being left for insurance. This new system will come into effect on Monday, 25th January 2016. PARKING IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY There have been further complaints about how parents are parking in the local community. Some of these complaints have been from the neighbours of the school and some from other parents or taxi drivers dropping children off. There have been several complaints about cars parking across safe crossing points along the street. Please have due consideration for these crossing points along with not blocking our neighbours’ drives or parking across from other cars so that the bus or a fire engine could not get through.

Please do not park near the school entrance. There are zig zag markers on the road that are about to be renewed and these must not be parked on. This is to ensure that the traffic can free-flow in and out of the school entrance. If you are parking in the spaces at the front of the school, please do not try to leave the spaces when there are a lot of vehicles entering or leaving the school gates. There have been a couple of incidences of cars actually hitting each other at busy times. If we see that there are people who park dangerously or irresponsibly, we will be noting the registration and reporting these to the local police and the Civil Enforcement Officers. We would encourage you to walk to school from home or even park your car a little further away from school to ease congestion and reduce the risk to all.
