February 10, 2017 Dear Parent/Guardian: I am writing you in regard to your child’s transportation arrangements and to notify you of some changes regarding daycare transportation. Every year, starting in May, we prepare your child’s school bus route for the upcoming school year. This process takes us several months to complete and by late August you receive your child’s bus stop and route assignment in the mail. We develop your bus route and bus stop based on several factors: school of attendance, transportation eligibility (meaning walk distance), where your stop was in the previous year (meaning if you had a daycare stop or home stop) bus capacity, length of route time and any safety considerations. It is important for you to understand that your route is developed based on the information we have during this period. Every year I send out notices via Connect-Ed, O-Blast and the District website regarding the deadlines for any changes to your transportation arrangements. We give you the latest possible date to make any changes to your transportation that we can reasonably give and still complete the bus routing, notifying our school bus contractor of the need for the number of buses and drivers and send our your specific bus route and stop information in time for the start of school. Unfortunately every year we receive numerous, hundreds, of changes last minute and past the announced deadline. For the most part we are able to accommodate those changes but they go into effect after the start of school. Because we receive such a high volume of late requests it often requires us to make drastic changes to routes, those changes often overload routes and/or extend the time of the routes. Remember that your route is developed based on the information we had in May, June, July and August. When that information changes last minute and/or late we are now taking the routes that were planned for, using all the previous information I explained in the first paragraph, and we are adding or removing stops, changing scheduled times or adding additional buses and drivers. None of which is the best way to provide you transportation services. This year we are trying to be proactive regarding the planning and development of the bus routes for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. Included in this letter is your child’s CURRENT transportation arrangement. If there are no changes (meaning you are going to use the same bus stop and/or daycare, or you haven’t moved) then you do not have to do anything. If your child is changing schools because of grade level changes, you still don’t have to do anything; we will do that during our route planning and development. If your information, included in this mailing, shows no bus route or no bus stop then you are not eligible for transportation. If you have any questions about this you can always call the transportation for clarification.

However if you want to change ANYTHING regarding your student’s transportation arrangement then you must come into the transportation office and fill out a “Bus Stop Change Form.” All change requests MUST be in writing and received by my office no later than noon on Friday August 11, 2017 for the change to go into effect for the start of school. All change requests received after August 11th will not go into effect until Monday September 18th 2017. There will be NO exceptions. Please be aware, late request will be taken on a first come first served basis. This is new and important to be understood because once a bus is filled to capacity no further requests will be honored. Meaning if your late request would result in overloading a bus or cause a rerouting of that bus, your request will not be honored. If you have moved, or are planning on moving during the summer, you must come into the District Office with four (4) proofs of residency before any transportation request can go into effect. If you request transportation changes during the year, those changes may take up to ten (10) days to go into effect. If your request would result in overloading a bus or cause a rerouting of that bus, your request will not be honored. Private and Parochial School Parents/Guardians: Please remember that in addition to the above, if you are sending your student to a private or parochial next school year you MUST fill out a request for transportation annually. Your application is due in the transportation office by no later than April 1st of the preceding school year. Thank you for taking the time to read this information. 10 de febrero de 2017 Apreciado padre/tutor: Les escribo con relación a los arreglos de transporte de su hijo y para notificarles sobre algunos cambios relacionados con el transporte a la guardería. Cada año, en el mes de mayo, empezamos a preparar la ruta del bus escolar que tomará su hijo el próximo año escolar. Este proceso nos toma varios meses para completarlo y a finales de agosto, ustedes recibirán por correo la información de la parada del bus y de la ruta que le fue asignada a su hijo. Nosotros asignamos la ruta y la parada del bus de su hijo, con base en varios factores: la escuela a la que asiste, la elegibilidad para el transporte (si vive a poca distancia de la escuela), dónde era su parada del bus el año anterior (si la parada del bus era en la guardería o en la casa), la capacidad del bus, la duración del tiempo de la ruta y cualquier consideración de seguridad. Es importante que ustedes entiendan que su ruta es desarrollada con base en la información que tenemos durante este periodo. Cada año les envío notificaciones a través de mensajes telefónicos, por medio del informativo O-Blast y también a través del sitio web del Distrito informándoles las fechas límites para hacer cualquier cambio a su transporte. Nosotros les damos la última fecha en la que será posible hacer cualquier cambio razonable al transporte, y aun poder completar el proceso de asignación de rutas de los buses, para notificar al contratista que nos provee el transporte de buses escolares; el número de buses y de conductores que necesitamos, así como también la información específica de las paradas y rutas de los buses; a tiempo, para el comienzo de la escuela. Desafortunadamente cada año recibimos numerosas, cientos de solicitudes de cambios a última hora y después de la fecha límite anunciada. La mayoría de estos cambios podemos acomodarlos, pero no se harán efectivos hasta después de que empiece la escuela. Debido a que recibimos esta gran cantidad de solicitudes tardías, con frecuencia nos vemos obligados a hacer cambios drásticos en las rutas, esos cambios suelen sobrecargar las rutas y/o demorar el tiempo de las rutas. Recuerden que su ruta es desarrollada con base en la información que teníamos en mayo, junio, julio y agosto. Cuando esa información cambia a última hora y/o tarde estamos tomando las rutas que planeamos, usando toda la información que les expliqué en el primer párrafo, y les estamos añadiendo y removiendo paradas, cambiando horarios o agregando buses adicionales y conductores. Nada de lo cual es la mejor manera de proveerles servicios de transporte. Este año estamos tratando de ser preventivos en lo que respecta a la planeación y al desarrollo de las rutas de los buses para el próximo año escolar 2017-2018. En esta carta está incluido el arreglo ACTUAL de transporte de su hijo. Si no hay cambios (lo que significa que su hijo tendrá la misma parada del bus en la casa/o en la guardería, o no se han mudado de casa)

entonces usted no necesita hacer ningún cambio. Si su hijo cambia de escuela, debido al cambio de grado, usted no necesita hacer nada; nosotros haremos el cambio correspondiente. Si esta correspondencia no incluye información sobre ruta o parada del bus entonces su hijo no es elegible para recibir servicio de transporte. Si tienen alguna pregunta al respecto, puede llamar al Departamento de Transporte. Sin embargo si usted desea cambiar ALGO con respecto al arreglo de transporte de su hijo, debe venir a la oficina de transporte y llenar un “Formulario para cambiar la parada del bus”. Todas las solicitudes de cambio DEBEN hacerse por escrito y deben ser recibidas en mi oficina no más tarde del viernes 11 de agosto de 2017, al medio dia; a fin de que el cambio se haga efectivo para el comienzo de la escuela. Toda solicitud de cambio recibida después del 11 de Agosto no tendrá vigencia hasta el lunes 18 de Septiembre de 2017. NO se hará ninguna excepción. Sírvanse tener en cuenta, que las solicitudes tardías se tramitarán en el orden en que sean recibidas. Esto es nuevo y es importante que se entienda, porque una vez que el bus esté lleno a la capacidad no se aceptarán más solicitudes. Esto significa que si su solicitud tardía ocasionara sobrecarga en el bus, o desvío del mismo, su solicitud no será aceptada. Si se mudaron de casa, o si están planeando en mudarse durante el verano, deben venir a la oficina del distrito con (4) pruebas de que residen en el distrito, antes de hacer efectiva cualquier solicitud de transporte. Si solicitan cambios en el transporte durante el año, esos cambios pueden tomar hasta (10) días para entrar en vigencia. Si su solicitud ocasionara sobrecarga en el bus, o desvío del mismo, su solicitud no será aceptada Padres/tutores de los estudiantes de escuelas privadas y parroquiales: Favor recordar que además de lo anterior, si van a enviar a su hijo a una escuela privada o parroquial el próximo año, DEBEN llenar una solicitud de transporte anualmente. Su solicitud es requerida en la oficina no más tarde del 1.o de abril del año escolar anterior. Gracias por tomarse el tiempo para leer esta información.
